You can listen to everyones opinions,but at the end of the day its you that will have to live with the thing.I suggest you try to get a ride of each and make your own conclusion as only you know weather you will be comfortable with either bike.Dont buy a bike to impress your mates,buy a bike that impresses you.

I'm surprised by the two choices you have put up. I am also surprised you haven't really specified your riding Details such as your age, Previous Riding experience etc.

I would say purely based on that your not ready for either.

The facts would suggest your going to "Centre punch a car" with it or "punt it off an embankment into the wilderness" somewhere.

Hence i suggest you re-think your choices. There's alot of other Awesome Models out there from Kawasaki.

I-K is bang on the money, For the step up from a toofiddy you would want something to learn on, not be sh1t scared of. The Late 90's 6,7 & 9's will all be good options. You'll save a fortune on Insurance, Be less intimidated & have more confidence which will in turn make you a better rider in a shorter period of time.

if you have only got 250 riding experience forget about the 10 imo.

the 6r has plenty of power and ive done my fair share of showing the clowns who think they are fast on litre bikes a thing or two at the track

in the end its up for you but a 10 is not for the noobs.

Hey, I'm a noob!

I guess it comes down to you. I felt and still feel very comfortable on my 10. I've been riding bikes for 20 years though. Had my L's as soon as I could get em etc...

The 10 is not that much bigger than a 6, but has more low range. That said, I still can throw a 6 around more and be more liberal with the wrist than I can on my 10. It has a nasty bite and doesnt want to play nice if you confuse the 2 A's: Ambition and Ability.

I'd say a 6, but there's nothing wrong with the 10, as long as you respect it.

i have a 05 6 and my mate who i ride with mostly has a 05 10.
the only time he really blows me away and leaves me for dead like im riding a postie is at speeds > 160.

How often does that come up? very very rarely.

i have ridden his bike once and to be honest i found it uncontrollable - simply cause it wont obey speed limits, accelerates extremely aggressively and is unpredictable. Dont get me wrong i love it, i want one and i will buy one one day but not till i have flogged the guts out this 6 and am competent enough to handle the unexpected that a 10 will throw at me.

Another thing to consider other than insurance is tyres - the 1000's just eat them up.

my opinion is to go buy yourself that brand new zx6. there is nothing better than a brand new bike.
you know for sure the history of the bike as well then. plus if you do find its not enough bike for you then you will get better resale than on a 2 year old bike.

1. 1000 cc's are alot of upkeep
2. You're stepping up from a 250? Go the 6. They put out as much hp as 1000 cc's made not that long ago.

I'd ride a ten, i went from 250 to 1000cc... however, it's not a wise move for alot of people

besides, buy a six, because I lied, i probably wouldnt even send your mother some flowers

Im not knocking the pre-03 models, but they are not that much cheaper, pick up a decent 03-04 fairly cheap these days..... on the road about 9k..... bloody ridiculous if you ask me! but yeah.... They will have you grinning from your eyelids to your a**hole for years.... I have had mine for 3 years now and still love it to bits!..... the 05 model is a hornbag too..... I would love the 07

Go and have a look at local racing one of these days, the zx6rr's are always running first... and the zx6r is basically the same but with a bit more grunt..... Kickass bikes.... every 636 ever made...

someone from here said it before -when in doubt get a bigger bike..
i like my nine. thought there is a difference between a nine and a ten from what ive seen, the power on my nine is very managable.

i jumped from a 2fidy to a 9 and Ross jumped from a 2fidy to a 12, just depends on your wrist control. though on a pure sports bike such as the ten i cant comment, when i sat on the ten it was also very uncomfortable.

this is not as silly as it sounds either, its horses for courses, and if you have a sensible head on your shoulders, then a jump of this magnitude is not necessarily a bad thing.

Test ride as many different capacities/models as you can possibly sling your arse over. You *will* find one that will suit your needs/budget perfectly.

mate im with I-K ...things to remember...10's eat tyres quicker than 6's... MUCH quicker...10's have more technology than say a 00-02 zx6r...theres less of em about ..parts are genuine when required....

mind u, i want a 10...but i been doin my apprenticeship, zx6r,vtr 1000, cbr900.... all fun toys....

oh have u considered not only insurance but running costs such as tyres, upkeep etc??

fark it ...buy the 10...it wheelies well!! (editors note- it wheelies better than it rides on 2 wheels)

I've slowly worked my way up from a 250 > 450 >750 >900 and the only non scary upgrade was going from the 250 to the 450. The bikes was obviously bigger in capacity, but only just revved less, but gave similar performance all over the rev range my 250 would do in the top 1/3 of the rev range.

I'd honestly say go for a mid 90's 600 as a next step up. You get the sedate(ish) and forgiving power of the early 600's, a decent front end, and a taste of the higher performance rubber.

Going from a 450 to a 750, the biggest scare was how top heavy it felt at first. but having said that, the bike was a mid 80's sportsbike and i got used to it, and i've ridden other bikes that've felt a hell of a lot more top heavy.

Going from a 80's 750 to a 90's 900 was daunting, if i ever rode a 10 (god forbid i ever do) i dont imagine i'd ever want to ride on the road and would only want to do trackwork with it, its just far far too intense a bike for the road, and especially me. i'm having issues with a "mere" 900" & speed limits.
