Ok, since i was in there anyways to clean up and convert some rust i decided to start polishing some metal bits.

So i got the petrol tank lid out and cleaned it up, and started work.

Mind you this is only the early stages because all i had here was my dremel, some 80 -100 grit paper and some polishing wheels *micro sized* oh and brasso

so this is about 1 hours worth, it should be better when i go get some high high grit paper and a proper polishing disc.

i also need to replace those allen head bolts and polish a few other things, its just cheaper than respraying.

ps. what do you guys think i should do, stay with a gunmetal style finish or go for the full polished look? im thinking to stay with a simpler semi-polished look

Update:

Did the plugs which was a bitch working out wtf kawasaki did without a manual :P... but it got them, converted the surface rust on the tank and araround some of the frame, jsut gotta flush out the tank now.

my old plugs were fairly good i believe, except for what looks like some burn around the ceramic at the base

Leave it raw looking... what do you paint it with to stop petrol eating it ?

What do you mean eating it? it survived fine without half the paint, it shouldnt be that bad.

edit: oh and the underside that is INSIDE the petrol tank itelsef i believe still has the majority of the black coating, it wasent completely stripped. just all the visible parts from the outside and on that little latch :)

Smitty probably has a tear in the eye looking at them pics... semi polished is good, lower maintneance..

I wouldn't polish too much unless you like polishing all the time as is is a pain in the ass. :shock:

Go the semi-polished 8) look you will enjoy it more, belive it from people that have done it.

heh ok semi polished.

and benno im keeping the bike, its fun, but when im off lams im buying a near new bike *AS WELL... not getting rid of a bike.. im a hoarder :P*

sothing like an ER6-f or ... alas... a M50 cruiser >_> *i know slap me now*

heh well the bikes unhappy and happy at the same time today, i believe crap is getting stuck in the carbies. When i run it, it bogs right down and wont run unless i have the choke wide open and dies with any throttle...

then it clears up and it runs more fantastic than ever, higher rev response, bit more power, no issues, then that bogging down comes back....


SO! what should i do? im thinking of just running a full bottle of carbie cleaner through it with a tank of premium or whatever.

i would have guessed just take the carbies apart and clean it out and check that the float levels were correct.

its cool, i pretty much had to walk it to the petrol station, but after a full tank it pretty much runs perfect again... i think i will be hunting down a petrol tank of a 95+ model
