Listen for that tell tale knock that KR1S' get. It's the one just before it throws a rod through the cases.

KR1S' were, and most probably still are the fastest production 250 made. They were a rocket ship in a straight line. But as with most high revving performance two stroke motors, they are partial to disintergration. Personally, I would steer your mate well clear of one unless he enjoys hours in the shed re-ringing pistons and linishing cranks!

There are really only two questions in life. 1.Which way do i go? 2.What is the lap record?

There was a BRAND NEW one for sale on ebay recently.(never ridden) Make sure he doesn't buy a KR250 either- totally different engine but they all flog out the crankcase apparently and it can't be fixed. I know a guy with three KRs and they are all stuffed. Bad design. :?
2 X ZRX1200R 4 X ER6N, GT550, 1988 ZX-10, 4 X GPZ250R, 4 X GPZ900R and GPZ750R :) Yeah I like Kawasakis.

I had heard that front breaks were very touchy and the rears were far from any use at all. The coment was "not for the faint hearted".

Sounds like a great bike for the workshops :(

I AGREE WITH BOTH OF YOU. I OWNED ONE BUT WAS NOT MECHANICALLY MINDED ENOUGH TO KEEP IT. THEY ARE THE BEST FUN WHEN THEY ARE GOING BUT THEY ALL GO BANG.
THEY ARE NOT A LEARNERS BIKE AND DO NOT QUALIFY FOR LAMS IN NSW. I READ SOMEWHERE THAT THEY PRODUCTED MORE HP THAN THE APRILIA RS 250 AND THE SUZUKI RGV250.

Not a learner bike.... simple as that...

Also.......

1. OLD
2. Hard to get parts for
3. expensive to get parts for
4. My mum wouldnt let me buy one so i dont want youz to have one either.

One of my mates had one... went like a rocket until it got wrapped around a tree.... the suspension wasnt all that great...

If he wants a two stroker he would be better off with a newer model of Suzuki RGV and if he has the money, the Aprillia RS250's are an awesome bike... Although they stopped bringing them in by the looks of it... Shame really.... picture here http://www.autotrader.com.au/photos/W52267663171.jpg

but how hot are the 125's!!! checkit http://www.aprilia.com.au/images/site/rs125g.jpg

Go the RS125  . Great looks, Easy to handle can be a ball tearer once modified. Only 2 drawbacks 1)Not a Kwaka and 2)Italian.

Sorry for shouting but I have a sore throat and if I don't raise my voice no one will hear. And I really liked my KR1S so I was excited.

It's a 125. The only ball-shaped objects it's going to tear are soap bubbles.
