Crikey, a tribute to Steve Irwin and family.

Post by Jonno »

Ok since I am the one of very few sunshine coast members I will do this. It has been a huge massive shock for locals here with the untimely death of Steve Irwin, the biggest employer in the area(500), overseas exchange programs, school and training etc, a huge supporter of local and international charities, spent all and I mean every cent of his croc hunter films on conservation, he and Terri bought vast tracts of land in central and northern Queensland for conservation and also in South Africa, NZ, Canada, single handed has tried to save the Galapagos island turtle. Much more......

Yes he has money only on the insistence of Terri for their kid’s future which is totally from zoo earnings btw, before she was in his life he lived in an old Queenslander house which was no more than a shack! His way was to teach conservation and animal protection, he often was heard to say “to teach conservation I have to show the people first" or simular.

To all those Germane Greer’s out there that criticise him for disturbing a critter for 30 seconds, well his view is mine. That is one little moment in time 1 creature is handled with kid gloves by Steve so millions then are now aware of said creature and millions of creatures may have a better future because of 1 CRITTER…… he had that way of affecting or infecting people with his enthusiasm and dedication. He has a huge animal rescue hospital at the Oz Zoo, the RSPCA have given and always had given their full support.

They say he has always been the same person, I believe this as was when our family happened to pull in to this small "Queensland croc park" on our way to Cairns around 1981. Bob (his dad) was commenting on crocs in the pen being very cautious but Steve (19) was bouncing around the pens/ crocs/ bob...He has always been the same....As it turns out I was his neighbour 5 or 6 doors down at one stage (2 years ago) and have met on the Minyama canals. ( I really wanted to get a big blow-up croc and sit it on top of my tinnie and go past his house)
Just a bloke thats all he was, he loved animals.

Ok some photos from my phone. Will resize later as I have run out of time...sorry.

Edit* resized, Thanks RG  , yes I was a lazy bugga

I even combed my hair

I very nearly cried when Russell Crowe said his farewell in his little segment.

Steve was a fantastic ambassador for wildlife conservation and although I didn't know him personally, I can say that he'll be dearly missed by thousands around the world whose lives he touched through his character or through his pure passion for doing the right thing in the face of nature.

RIP Steve.
Listening to you is like being bukkaked with stupid.

Cynical yes, but Bindi sounded like she had read it 50million times just like a movie script. I dare say she did practice.

Either way VERY sad to all whom Steve touched in one way or another.
