Ready to go

Post by balanse »

Just put the finishing touches to the mighty ZRX for the forthcoming "lap of the state" tour to Pisland. Had been ignoring a few things so starting last week I got motivated and went to town with a full service.

First up was to tackle a long term pilot leanness issue, so pulled the carbs and bumped up the pilot jets from 32 to 35s. Actually should have got the 40s (hate jetting size choices) though, but its lost the cracle and pop on overrun and pulls even harder off idle than it did. Next time the carbs are off I will go some 40s but fugged if I am pulling the damn things out again until the trauma wears off! What a pr1ck of a job.

Next up was the rear wheel out for a new rear tire. Trying the Shinko 005 based on the rap it gets and for $160 the rear fitted and balanced, its worth a try! While the wheel was out I installed some new rear pads that have been sitting on the bench for about 2 months and gave the rear a good check over for loose stuff - none discovered. Got sorta paranoid about this after reading a few KNRA posts about the ZRX and loose bolts but all tight - luvverly.

Replaced the front pads (similar shelf life) and also ran around the front with a spanner and allen keys and again nothing loose. Pulled the plugs and they looked fine so re-installed. Dont often change plugs and haven't had any trouble from one for decades, so pretty relaxed about buying more every service unless one looks weird.

Tidied up tonight with an oil and filter change, checked the coolant, clutch & brake fluid levels and adjusted the chain after putting rear wheel in. Then fitted the rack top and just finished with a carb synch.

I think she's ready to rock and roll! Bring on Monday. :D
Just one more law and everyone will be safe.
