My heart was in my mouth from the moment he took the lead. With the way the silly bugger normally rides, it wouldnt have been a suprise if he had come off!

Assen 3/09/2006

GLORY FOR PSG-1 KAWASAKI CORSE AS WALKER TAKES FIRST WIN AND NEITO SCORES FIRST PODIUM
The entire PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse team left the Assen round safe in the knowledge that they have enjoyed their best weekend of the year so far, as Chris Walker (PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse) made SBK history by riding from the very back of the grid to victory in sodden conditions during race one. His ride through the field was impressive to behold, and he ran out the victor by over four seconds. His team-mate Fonsi Nieto (PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse) scored a charging fourth in race one and followed it up with a stunningly exciting third in the dry race two, having been in contention for an even better result before running off track and recovering to score his first career SBK podium. Walker was 14th in race two, after confusion over tyre fitment on the drying Assen track. Regis Laconi (PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse) was forced to retire in race one, but finished race two eighth, having been well up in the leading pack for a period of the race. Walker's win keeps him eighth in the championship; Nieto up to tenth, with Nieto also the second highest points scorer of all during the Assen weekend.

CHRIS WALKER: 1st & 13th - 123 Points, 8th Overall: “In the first race it was just great to get the first win in Superbike, especially after all the hard work we've put in. In the second race we had to change the tyre on the grid and the softest race tyre was put in by mistake. That lasted four laps. Race two took some edge off the celebrations but to get the first Kawasaki win for some time was fantastic.”

FONSI NIETO: 4th & 3rd - 112 Points, 10th Overall: “I ran off the track in race two after the bike wobbled and pushed the brake pads back into the callipers. I had no brakes into the next corner, until I pumped the pads back, so I ran off. I think I could have caught Pitt again for second but I think for me, and more importantly the team, it was better to focus on the first podium finish. In the first race, if I had not been taken off the track, I really think I could have won the race.”

REGIS LACONI: DNF & 8th - 80 Points, 14th Overall: “I made a good start maybe into fourth position but then the bike started chattering, then it did it more and more and it became very hard to ride. It looked good for a while but I could not do anything more.”

Great ride by Chris Walker. However in race 2, I was hoping that Fonsi may bring us that elusive dry weather win!! A win is a win, but often we only seem to do well when it's wet (more rider than bike in those situations normally) so it would have been good to see him go on with it. I was getting a little hopeful ...................... till he ran off!!!! :x But third's pretty damn good too! :)

I was reading recently that his ride was at risk for next year, so this will be a good result for him.

yeh it was great stuff, 7 years i've been waiting and it finally came - glad i taped it too  couldnt happen to a nicer guy to, the stalker has spent a majority of his career on green bikes.

i really thought fonsi was gonna catch troy at one stage in race 2 - still a dry 3rd is an excellent result.

but the ride of the weekend had to have been josh brookes, charged from 20th on the grid to 4th in race one before his charge ended - easily the best result that teams had all year. fifthteenth in the second race is a point scoring finish

pitty rode well and super troy extended his lead, a pretty good weekend in all.

:D I was very impressed by the modest way that "The Stalker" took the win aknowledging that so many front runners had fallen. But that is racing, great win for nice bloke even if he is a pom.
Big wrap for Brooksie hope he gets a good green ride next year and they dump Laconi and Fonsi (even though he had a good weekend...might have something to do with contract time?).
Andrew Pitt is still a motorcycle god (Kwakas last world champion) two podiums in wet and dry conditions, Go Pittie!
