Clutch-less gearchanging ... why?

I'll keep taking the Bait Wanna, i;m not opposed to free lunches & until i see a hook its Bon apetite. Cluctchless Upshifts (i never gave an opinion on Clutchless downsshifts as i rarely do it, maybe to pick up neutral as i coast to the lights) with straightcut gears would have to be better "it feeels better to me & since i ride like my Nana i am pretty in tune with the bike as too what it wants &/or requires".
In the old days clutches were far less sophisticated & boxes probably much stronger & most of the skill required was to change both up n down without a clutch, now were they rebuilding boxes all the time ?. I doubt it.
A clutchless upshift has to save wear on the clutch,box,engine & drivetrain due to the smaller amount of variation of load due to the shorter shift and better control over the engine revs each time it engaged.

Me personally, on the road, unless your racing your mates or dragging a car at the lights I wouldn't bother clutchless shifting....
or your to lazy to pull the clutch in, or are riding with one hand on the bar... (guilty of both )..
On the track clucthless up and clutch down...

Yes, I do believe you would have less wear on you gearbox if you used the clutch... I'm sure we've all had less than perfect clutchless upshifts, that crunch and jolt can't be good for anything...

Clutchless shifting is rather pointless unless you're pushing it. You can do it just for the sake of being a lazy bastard and it wont matter a shit, but it serves no real purpose.

The main reason I clutchless upshift when riding hard, is simply to maintain drive. Particularly on the exit of corners, or when accelerating through flip flop sections. You've hardly got the time to go buggering around with the cluthc when you're trying to throw your body from one peg to the other and get the weight distribution right, keep a good line and all kinds of other things. Its simpler to just give it a kick.

And, upon corner exit, hell just as a general rule of cornering you NEED drive through that rear wheel. Pulling the clutch in, takes that away. Simpler to just give it a micro second clutchless shift and maintain the drive.

Nothing wrong with encouraging clutchless downshifting. If you can do it, you can do it. Simple as. Practice it slow, when you're good enough by all means do it fast. Personal preference there, I use the clutch though. But its not all that damned hard to do.

erm clutchless downshifting is kinda counterproductive.
Most Kawasaki sportsbikes have slipper clutches, use them folks.

The 7 does have a slipper clutch so does the 10 definately.
I think the 636 does too and I wouldnt be surprised if lots of other models did also.
I slipper on the 10 and the 7 come adjusted a little to tight though, you can change it and get them to slip more, this is a highly recommended mod, I havent done it yet but I plan to soon. Ill let you all know how it goes.

why?? cos it looks cool..and im lazy..and it saves me getting "arm pump" when riding for long periods...also its a bit quicker, not so much usefull for road riding, but it is for wheelies..plus wen im wheelieing im holding on bloody tight for dear life!!

Supper Time, Ok now I'm not jumping Fences here but the only slipper Clutch i've had anything to with, just happens to come with valentino rossi attached via Channel 10 n all sorts of techie wizardry to get his Left hand n handlebar into my loungeroom. Being that Mr Rossi seems to grab a big fist full of clutch poke it up 2,3,4 or 5 clicks to pick the gear he'll next need. As he approaches the Apex of the corner he just dumps the clutch and gets back on the throttle. So hes not using engine braking at all. I guess it would keep the bike more settled on entry ??.
I'm sure there are other ways to utilize it ? .... but hey he's no Punter.
Back to clutchless upshifts i do it %90 of the time & rarely am i UP IT & only clunks i get are from neutral to 1st using the clutch.

well yes and no....
there is one installed on ZXR750 and ZX7rs but unless you mod the bike
it doesn't work..
I think is was Phil who posted a link on this subject to another site
and
I believe the Zx6RR's have one installed but its tightened so it doesn't work on the road (but would on the track) but the other 6's don't have one
the 10r definitely has one, but can't find any reference to the z1000 having one
