I was lucky enuff to have LPG already on my car when I bought it.
Its definately cheaper to run but you don't get as good mileage either.
When I bought my car 2 years ago LPG was 38c a litre, its now 59c a litre and will go up in summer as the demand for it in the European winter raises the cost.
As the demand becomes greater locally the price will also go up and in 2012 when the govt start taxing it at a similar rate to petrol, it will probly cost the same as petrol, or not be worth it as the mpg's go down.
The same crooks that sell you petrol also sell LPG so don't think the profitearing won't start as the need increases, it already has.
But for now, I'm happy with it..

I recently got a few quotes out of curiousity to have my 2000 Holden Astra converted. Out of 6 suppliers, the prices ranged from $2300 to $3500, with one who wouldn't do it at all, and all warned that the tank would have to go in the boot - der...
As far as I know, the cost is roughly 2/3 of the cost of petrol for the same car - if that makes any sense.
I also heard on a news report just recently that gas is going to be taxed as of 2012. It implied that it wasn't currently taxed, but I don't know what the real story is. I guess by 2012, petrol will cost about $23.00 per litre, so you may still be in front
