How unlucky can you be.....?
I don't usually like to dwell on tragic bike events but if anyone remembers last week a bloke on a bike was killed on the M4.
Apparently he was killed by a ladder which fell off the back of a tradies ute. Unfortunately it smacked him fair and square and killed the poor bugger instantly.
Good time to remind yourself to keep a stack of distance between you and whatever is around you.

It's really all about standing around drinking Dave's beer.

U are right. I happen to have the company ute for a week and had a ladder strapped to the top. The whole back of the ute is covered, that makes the rear view mirror useless. I only have my side mirrors to tell me what's going on and I can't see anything that is less than 4m behind the ute.blackninja wrote:the semi driver prolly never even knew what had happened and kept going
If the ladder does fall off and kill someone, I honestly would not know.
No, I wasn't on the M4.
Yes, my ladder is still tied securely on the ute.

Geez, lucky you had the visor closed!hoffy wrote:I was following a harley one day, as you know they are pieces of crap, and his fancy super dooper left foot peg fell of his bike while at 120k's on the M4 and copped me square in the chest and them bounced up and almost broke my visor.. Lucky I had a full face on..
...and I agree, I also try and steer clear of utes, cement trucks, cabbies, buses, etc, etc...(and drivers wonder why we always try and work our way to the front of traffic!)

Not a bike story, but a crazy events happening in front of you story instead!,
I was driving from gold coast -> canberra in my old '05 Liberty Wagon, and had a trailer on the back..... well soon as we hit sydney the weather turned to uber crap.... so we reduced our speed and in some stretches were doing between 40-60km/h until we could find a place to pull over safely.... ie a long way from the road......
well anyway the weather was starting to clear a bit..... still pissing down but not as crazy with the wind (a few trucks got blown over!) and anyway just near Goulburn, we get overtaken by this nutter in a VP commodore with a trailer.... doing i'd say around 130+, well about 3-5 seconds later I saw shit all over the road... and then sparks..... the tossers trailer had popped off the ball, dropped down and acted like an emergency anchor and attempted to stop the car and trailer in all of a millisecond! so meanwhile I am testing out the AWD and all the saftey gear thankfully provided by those crazed designers @ Subaru.... and watch this guy go straight into the Wire Rope Barrier.......
he then rebounds off that and starts pirouetting across both lanes and goes flying off the side of the road...... into the darkness..... well I find somewhere a little safer to pull over..... call 000 and explain what I had just witnessed.... I then went a few km's up the road, used an exit turned around.... then did the same up the other way, so i could get back to where it had happened.....
Well by the time i arrived..... there was stil no-one else around.... except the luckiest dude ever! not a scratch on him.... meanwhile his commodore looked like it had lost out a battle with Truckzilla and was totalled!
Moral of the story..... those chains on trailers you fools! are not just to do up, but they are supposed to hold it off the ground ! So do them up properly!
If that had of happened as he actually was passing us, then we would have been toast....... I am thankful that we never had to test the 5 Star ANCAP rating awarded to the liberty.....
