Having been tapped by a poorly controlled wayward cop car I'm not sure I agree - if you let them fire on the offender then they WILL hit others. Just my opinion - you don't have to agree...lets hope your kids or mates never stray.I rather see these imbiciles dead than having myself or family member hit by them. There should be a new law to allow police open fire to these fuckwits.

The standard retort I've developed states that even pissed unlicensed drivers in uregistered stolen cars are a lot more likely to stop for red lights and slow down for roundabouts when they *don't* have mirrors full of flashing red-and-blue lights. Chasing them only makes them more desperate or more hyper, which makes them take greater risks, which puts the general public in more danger.
Ultimately, how hard is it to get their plates and/or follow them at a distance while arranging for backup. Whether they're after a bunch of stoned bogans in an XD Falcon or a bunch of squids on sportsbikes, they'll only have to tail them as far as the nearest McDonald's. The bogans will pull in because they'll have the munchies, the squids because they can't ride more than 25km without a break...
