I am very very sad, my 250 died (quoted $1000 to fix it

So now im in the market for a new bike!
Im still on restrictions for another year, so Im after a 250.

Old faithful was a gpx, which i found really comfortable. I do alot of touring with work & have back problems, so a fully lent over bike just doesnt suit me. Plus i really want to buy a bike built in the last 5 years so I can absolutly will no have to worry about another bike dying on me.
But on the other hand I was really starting to find the gpx boring.
But on the left foot, the gpx is probably the most practical cost wise. I saw a 2005 gpx advertised for 4990. (budget is $5000)
but on the right foot, i like kawas best

I need some advice on what to get

what do you think guys? i know your biased to kawa but still

you have to buy a 250?

if so i'd say fix the one you've got, or buy another cheapie, then with money you'd have left over it would be a stepping stone to a bigger bike

I would stick to a GPX if you where happy with it.

Perhaps just go to a few bike shops and sit on a few and see what feels righ for you. Its easy for us to say what we think but we are not the ones riding it all the time

my bike is only worth $2200 when running so spending 1000 on it to get it running again simply isnt worth it.
Id go buy another cheapy but im scared it will die too

wouldnt I be better off buying an almost new one thats probably still under warranty? Id get the almost all the cash back when I sell and wouldnt have to worry so much about mantinence

nah i wouldnt get an actual new bike, just an almost new one.
Ive only just got on my Ps so still another year to go. I think I might keep it for 2 years though because of where I am career wise - probably wont be able to afford more $ out for awhile after this.
Im sort of glad it happened now, Im on 2 weeks of leave from tomorrow so will have a chance to get to bike shops and take a look around. And its winter so bikes should be cheaper right? (not so far where ive been looking, but theres still hope

Mate sounds like you're got your head screwed on right

and not being biased a near new gpx would be good, if you were off you're restrictions the list would be huge

For that sort of money you're also looking a 2/3yr old ZZR250's, avoid you cbr250/fzr250/2strokers, they're either old or unreliable

You could always move to Qld and get your opens

(well if you've had a car licence for 3 years anyway

considering the age (14 years) who knows what else they will find wrong with it once they start pulling it apart.

agree or disagree on cost? Im mechanicly retarded, but went through it with a friend and he reckons its probably around right. Its not worth spending more than $500 - $600 on fixing it.

well i may sound insaine, but i just spent 1200 on my bike, getting it fixed and serviced and new tyres and that. its a 89 model.

the cam chain will be about 500 alone, so that price seems good.

weigh up the odds.

$1000 now and get 12 months out of it and have the money to upgrade to a nice ZX6r or ZZR750.

or new 250 and have to stay on it for 2-3 years cause you cant afford a bigger bike.

trust me the ability to ride a bigger bike but be financially unable to will annoy you, you will wish that you had spent that grand and got it fixed.

i say fix her, if body work is good and frame is straight and no other issues besides those listed.

but this is just my opionion.

or move to nsw and you can ride up to a 650 in some brands.

Get a 2nd opinion and if needs be take one of our guys from here along with you as I'm afraid some places still look at the fairer sex as easy game
