Other people riding your bike?

I let a friend of mine take the zx6r for a few months, he is lucky enough to be able to tell the story of 2 very nasty altercations with cars!!!
But even still, i was still worried it would never come home

If anyone crashed my ride i think i would be more worried about their health than the bike

Ok now my Serious answer as this post.

This one is a bit topical for me at the moment. After I very recently Tossed Jeff's FZ1 up the road & put myself in hospital for a coupla weeks with a punctured lung & fractures to my shoulder & ribbage.

I didn't offer "Tiggr" to Anyone until he had a few minor marks from stuff that happens. Then i was/am very selective in whom i would let ride it. I think only 4 people have ridden "Tiggr" in the 2 years Since i bought him.

My '91 FZR6 on the other hand is on loan to a Friends Missus for her to get some confidence before she gets back on her 05 6r. Janelle Dropped it about half a dozen times when learning purely cause she was too short at intersections etc. Yappa rode it last Track day till Lunch time & I rode it in the afternoon sessions(shows how much i trusted Yappa). I also rode Barrabob's & Varden's 6r's the same day. I had also Swapped Hemi for the 7r the track day before & our times were only a second slower then on our own bikes after 2 sessions.

I dont think dropping a friends bike has to be a negative experience, as long as you are prepared to accept responsibility for it & do the right thing. Jeff & Anne were always more concerned about my injuries then the bike & I feel if anything we are better friends now then we were before.

I have ridden a lot of borrowed bikes, mostly at the request of the owner for one reason or another. I had too ride my mates Fireblade home from the bikeshop as he didnt have a licence, Had to ride Kevs Monster 12r back from a Dyno session in the wet through Peak hour traffic etc etc. A few i've asked to ride & I must admit it felt good when they said it was OK to have a ride. It's nearly as good a feeling as when you return them in one Piece

As for the future I'm not sure if my recent experience will change how i feel about riding other folks bikes till i get out there & find myself in that position.

As always it's a motorbike & they do Fall over, can happen to anyone at anytime. As withthe rest of you's I'm just trying to keep the off's as far apart as possible.

Never worried about having other people ride my bikes. Half the fun of having a bike is fixing the buggar anyway.

On the other hand, if fate decrees that the 11 has further spills, I'd rather someone else copped the pain. At 52 yrs old it takes too long to get over the injuries. (if you ever do)

There is another worry, and that is the statistical one. I cant remember the exact numbers, however they were significant of where injuries/deaths occured on bikes owned by someone else. I guess handing someone the keys and then they find out the bikes capabilities of emergency stopping, handling, power delivery etc can be an issue. Especially as they are often in the shit when then try and find the limits of some things (like braking). If you dont know a bike well then you dont know how it behaves. If you dont know how it behaves then how you you compentently but it in a "safe" situation? For me I do not wish to put a person in a situation where they can be hurt, and a position where they get themselves in the shit finacially. That all being said it is up to the individual. I get asked all teh time at work "can we do the test on your bike?" I say sure, just hand me a bank chq for 30 grand (to be safe) and the keys are yours. No one has given me a chq yet.

I would let Lainie ride my bike, if she could touch the ground

Brett offered me a ride of his bike once, I declined, for the simple fact, I was not long back on a bike, after a 4 year break, and I was not yet confident enough....

Also I have a friend who keeps asking to take my bike up the street...He says he will be gentle, but he doesn't have a licence, and I have seen how he treats other ppl's property....I also tell him, that you only have to snezze and the ignition key will smack ya in the nose......

I had a brand new KR250 and lent it to a mate after I lost my licence,he had it for 1 afternoon and rode it off, so now nobody rides my ride, it's not that I don't trust anyone I just don't trust anyone

Nope, no-one rides mine but me and never will, even the guy who did the RWC and had to test ride it was under threat of painful death if he did anything wrong, when they tested the bike for excessive noise and revved it out to about 8000RPM in neutral I went totally ballistic, nope, don't touch my bike till you buy it.
