Other people riding your bike?

Post by ttc »

Just curious do you let anyone else ride your bike??

Does it worry you if something happens to it about repairs? insurance? chasing them for money?

My dad told me never to lend your girlfriend or your bike... :D ...you can guess the reasons why. :D
I live with fear everyday but on weekends she lets me ride.

I have let the odd person on mine and saw it have a near death experiance before my very eyes but it was a judgement call on my part and i was a little hesitant at the time.

Up to you Tanya but if you bin it yourself at least you cant blame anybody else rather than if someone else does it on your behalf and you have the hassle of cleaning up the loose ends.
If I rode my bike at the speed of light, what would happen when I switched on its headlights?

I have let a few people I trust ride the 6. Oh and Neka
I am usually on their bike at the time though.

But its always the case of
You bend it, you mend it.

If i thought them fixing it would be an issue if they did bin it then they would not be on my bike.

you break.....you bought it!!!!

i usually make a judgement call on who i let on it. only had 1 other person ride it other than me (my dad).

i let my mate actually race my old RVF400, not once, but4 times!!! but he was also my sponsor for racing, and i knew he was good for it if he f#$ked up. but he still owes me a ride on his ducati 999 racebike (ex-peter mcmartin) i think that i will have gotten the better end of that deal when i get around to having a go on it. but refer to my first line... and you know i will be tiptoeing around on his machine!!!

ditto. well except for neka riding my bike. I'm not that stupid ;)
nah i'd let neka ride my bike. hell I let my brother have the odd shot and he doesn't have a licence or actually know how to ride... luckily he doesn't know how to crash yet either.

and that's what i mean by trust. trust them to do the right thing if they bin it.

I let my friends ride Kermie if they want to. Very simple to me it's a material possession that can be replaced. :D

Saying that though if ya do ride it " You fark it you fix it"

Funnily enough since I picked up my zx6r a friend of mine has been at me to take it for a run. Stupidly enough though, he doesn't have a licence but claims to have ridden another bike down the street before.

Now I wouldn't let him ride the GPX and there's fk all chance he's throwing a leg over me 6. He keeps telling me it will be fine. Now this is a guy I would trust with my life and visa versa but he simply has no concept of what he is asking or what he's in for if I were to say yes.

I've tried telling him it has nearly as much power as his car but a tonne lighter ...he still don't get it.

I have however let mates who have been riding longer than me take it for a spin.
I weigh up 2 things.
1st whats the chance that they will bin it and 2nd if the worst did happen CAN they afford to fix it.
If both of those add up to 100% then its a go.
If theyre 50% likely to bin it and 25% likely to pay for it then I'm afraid 75% againt getting your arse on that seat.

I'm selective, but my son is the only person who has a key to bike.

Only ever let two people ride my gpx, hatter and my best mate. Both were short test rides (under 5 minutes).
