Lowering a 87 GPX RII

Post by Draven »

Hey guys, well heres the deal my missus has the bike bug now and wants her own bike, so im going to give her my GPX and save and get something bigger for myself, but there is one problem she cant touch the ground properly on the GPX and i heard there is alot of people on here who know alot about the GPX's, How do i go about lowering the suspension on the bike is it hard job or can i do it myself in my garage?

Any help will be greatly apreciated :)

Cheers Greg

Not much you can do with the GPX as the suspension isn't adjustable..

Usually you can raise the forks in the triple clamps but I believe the top mount on the GPX is solid and doesn't allow the forks to slide thru.

You may be able make some longer dogbones for the rear suspension linkage to drop the back... dunno..?

As suggested, cutting some foam out of the seat may be about it...

5ft isnt short ;)

a friend of mine is 4'9 and found the best bike in stock form for her was a Ya#$%a Zeal

seat chop is one option, another is to fit a ZZR shock as this is slightly shorter than a GPX shock 20mm or so, so will give prob an inch or so off the rear, with an added benefit of preload adjustment

If the triple clamps are blanked off at the top there is no reason that you couldnt drill them out so you can drop the forks through, which would be advised if you want to drop the rear

In the end it might be a better option to buy a different bike for her , maybe a postie till she is comfortable riding and can go back to the GPX or something else

Watch the front forks of Zeal's
They are SO cheap as to be VERY unfunny....
Just because you CAN ride, doesn't mean you SHOULD

Short people rock!

I'm 5 foot exactly and I have a ZZR 600 with a shaved seat and the suspension wound down. In total, its down about 2 inches from standard I think.

If I had a choice I'd choose a lighter bike, but the options are very minimal.
