Post by roundman58 »

Due to the uproar caused by the Motorcycling fraternity NTC has removed the intended changes for the Lane Splitting laws(151a) from there Amendment package.

Sweet! I was just wondering what's happening with the lane splitting debate. I wasn't sure if it had been outlawed or dropped. At least I can lane split without being nervous about a cop seeing me :D For now at least.

dad got pulled up for speeding and thought it would be a good time to ask the cop and the cop said that it will never be illegal in qld . . .

. . . also its legal for motorbikes to pullup in cycle lanes at light :)( although cars like that one even less lol )

I wouldn't be counting your chickens yet. Might be just a cheap tactic to get the motorcycling community to calm down, while the NTC and/or ARRMG fine tune the proposal and slip it though while no-one's looking.

Still, for now we can rest a little easier. Hopefully they can now see that there's enough dangers to motorcyclists on our roads without adding to them with ill-conceived laws.

I believe ARRMG is Australian Road Rules Management Group(could be wrong though), and at least the way it reads, is that for the moment the rule will not be presented with the current raft of amendments.
The proposal will now go back to the development stage and be discussed with consultation(?) before a decision will be made on whether it is to be put forward again with the next round of amendments.
At least now the consultation process may include bike groups and other road groups.

That's good news :D

But does it mean it's legal ? I believe one still can be booked as in the case of NSW you can get fined for every car you pass?

Lol. Me too. My plan is to do it until I get my second fine for it, then think about it some more. Then probably do it again anyway.

$20 bucks says they will drop it... make a big announcement that they are dropping it... and then pass the law quietly when no one is watching.... Then leave it for about a year and suddenly do a big sting operation....

Thats what the government usually does when something causes protests...

Unfortunately Stereo, Ithink you may be right. :( However, it is happy news for the present moment. :D We'll just have to watch them closely.
