I had a good road trip apart from coming across the bike fatality near Beaudesert

The i find out Brett is hurt

A mate rings me today he's been in hospital for 2 months cos a truck ran him over while he was stopped at lights

a girl i know crashed a couple of weeks ago

Our mortality? Is it a high price to pay?

Next thing ya know is your'll wanna be sellin ya bikes, snap out of it, these things come in blocks, it may be ages before we here of anymore (he hopes).

Brett will mend and be back before ya know it, all good, keep smiling.

Ya can always move to Sydney, North West Sydney maybe?

Mmmmmm, less traffic, better roads and of course better people, who don't cause scandal and outrage on the forum

just a few coincidences. People burn to death in houses every week in this country but we don't consider living out in a tent do we? The guy sitting at the lights was probably in neutral and listening to his mp3 player, just be smarter than the others that's all.

we all go through these things some earlier some later mine was earlier 3 months in hospital ankle broken in 4 places but i'm BACK better older wiser and laughing

and if you think i'm hiding behind emoticons they wer'nt invented then lol

You can die or get injured doing most things these days and everyday we avoid this is a good day. Can't stop living to stay living.

In saying that i'll be sacrificing many alcoholic beverages next Tuesday to pay homage to whoever or whatever was looking after me 12 months ago... BTW 1 or 2 of those bevies has your name on 'em.

this spells co and go, just seems this year ahs been a bit more eventfull than others.

tanya, i know what your saying, i have even thought of hanging my keys up, cause i ahev lost mates adn seen many a mate go down, but i keep thinking if i do whati need to stay safe and lookafter myself and not worry about the guy behind of infront i should eb right. and everytime i start my bike i do it because i love it becaus ei enjoy and becaus ei know my mates are watching me and joining me in spirit..

i was forced to give up dancing, my main love before bikes, due to injury, im not giving up my other love, bikes..not for anyone.

As far as the title of this thread goes, the short answer is yes

Long and short of it Nanpants is you are pretty much like the rest of us here, its in your blood to ride

You can go anytime in any number of ways, what counts is what you do before you go and the most important of these things is doing what you truely love.

i totally understand where you are coming from Tanya

just recently I have been up close to an accident and a friend of my fathers was killed on a bike.

riding the roads around here also seems like russian roulette most times as well.

i was seriously contemplating getting rid of the bike and getting a trackie only.

What i did by accident to get me away from my negative thoughts regarding the bike was go for a couple really leisurely rides around the beaches early in the morning. and a slow ride out on one of the windy roads.

i quickly reminded myself that i really love riding motorbikes...

i just want to make sure i can stay sensible and safe.

I guess what i am saying is that i am sure your doubts will pass pretty soon once you have gone on a couple nice fun incident free rides.

I lost my best mate on Sept 10, last year to an old lady pulling out in front of him.

He taught me to ride, taught me EVERYTHING I knew on a bike.

After it had happened, I sold my bike (which I bought, and we rebuilt from top to bottom) as I couldn't bear not only riding it, but looking at it.

His death was a Saturday, and my 21st was the night before. We were supposed to go riding together, but I was too hungover, and then he was in his accident. I partially blame myself for the fact we should have been riding. His last words to me were "I wish you were my brother mate, i love you, see you in the morning for our ride if your not too hungover" - word's I will never forget.

I sold the bike as I said, and didn't think I would EVER get back on one. But, if you have an itch, it must be scratched - and thus, I borrowed a mates bike, and went for a ride. Once back in the saddle, there was no way you could get me out.

My mate and I used to do 'set roads'. Ie set out from one spot, ride the road, then head home. I've since managed to complete these rides that we used to do, with a few tears here and there.

The hardest part was not having anyone to ride with anymore, until recently when another mate bought a bike.

At the end of the day though, as bad as it sounds - everybody has a number, and when that number is up - your time is up. If I die on a bike - i'll die with a smile. My mates motto was 'live to ride, ride till die', a tattoo which he had on his back. He died doing what he loved.

You could die today of a heart attack, tomorrow getting hit by a bus, or the day after in a freak storm.

At the end of the day - i will risk life and limb to ride. It's what we, as motorcyclists accept everytime we turn the key.

Little bit off topic there possibly, but hope you all get my point.

I've been there too Tanya, it never really gets any easier. I constantly think about stopping fast roadriding altogether, only to end up on another one every few months. Hell even my ride to work is really quite excessive.

One thing that may help is to do a trackday. It somehow gives you a better understanding of the road. But you are always going to hear about people crashing bikes. Thing is, we often do not hear about all the people NOT crashing bikes. The people who have not had a serious accident outnumber those that have. Just remember that.
