yeh i would rate thunderbolts way as a high speed transit stage used for making up lost time, think there where a few curves at the end of it somewhere...might have been the putty.

Take your 6r up the oxley rain hail or shine and dont forget the sliders that road just keeps on winding and it was raining fairly well when i did it but it would be one of the best bits of road i have been on. :D
If I rode my bike at the speed of light, what would happen when I switched on its headlights?

I did a thread a while bike about spending a week doing oxley laps - but all the pics were lost so I won't post the link until I can dig the pics up again.
I have a pic of that same thunderbolt's sign ;)

Thunderbolt's is good, but pales in comparison to the oxley. Next time you're up that way head east from Walcha and spend 2 hrs doing 1 lap of the oxley - you won't regret it.

Where on what rd was that taken?
The sign is on the left just after you turn right (yeah that sound strange I know) at the Gloucester end of the Thunderbolts. It is about 1 - 1.5 kms after the bridge leaving Gloucester.

IMO, Thunderblts is fantastic because of the off camber corners and bumps, that is what makes a road great and fun as it is technical and you need to have your wits about you in spades (much like the Bonang).

thanks for all the education - can't believe i was so close to it. After being used to the roads of North Wales i've been hanging for some decent mountain type up and downers. I'll be back up to Port to nail the Oxley as soon as i can.

As for a decent surface, between the Thunderbolt and Buckets Highway (?) (which was from Taree to Goucester) i've fuc*ed my right wrist and ruined my sex life. Touring on a ZX6-R - not ideal...

yeah, the roo valley was part of the 1750ks on the way to Jarvis Bay. Came down into Nowra at dusk... can be a bit ropey espacially when the light was going.

The other great way to get to the valley is to go south of Nowra and there is a different way up, which is equal if not better than the road from the north end.

Oxley kills Thunderbolts & would Rate the Bruxtner(East of Teneterfield) 2nd best piece of fun stuff after oxley. Putty is still a supurb bit of black stuff & has to be riden both ways to really be appreciated.

Thunderbolts is OK but you really need to "let the Big dogs Bark" for it to be close to the others to get the most out of it.

2cs

Good onya for getting away for the 3 days mate, Top Stuff.

haha glad some can post some pictures of the thunderbolts my previous experiance with it was just a blur :D that and I learnt that if your going fast enough the bike flies right over the top of potholes.
