You can get discounts to some stores just being a member, so not too bad. Many of the guys are nice too. But yeah too many "which one is better vtr250 or spada" questions around

Not sure why one would advertise a bike forum though. Maybe more member=more eyeballs=more advertising opportunities.

Yes, they are a non profit organisation.... that is to say, all their profit goes to promoting the site (their example is the booths at the expo) so I suspect they are building up the client base sothat in the future they can sell the site...

smart plan...

that's a google ad.

You advertise through google and then google pays for advertising space on sites. The ads are generated so that you have related content. You would get a whole heap of different motorcycle related ads on two wheels and the netrider ad would also appear on other sites.

sites advertising through google also come up in a special area (near the top) on searches.

Netrider could have also came up with an agreement with TW for the ad to appear on their site. Because it appears there doesn't mean it will appear on other content targetted sites. If this site was to run google ads (which would probably cover the servers costs with the amount of impressions made) the admins have the option to block "competition" sites appearing

There's money to be made displaying google ads. I'm running them on my TLS home pages and tried to keep them as unobrusive as possible and do OK. Although the main rules of google ads are to 1) Not tell how much you make 2) Never ask people to click on the ads.

The contextual aspect is good. Works real well for for dyno manufacturers when peeps are looking at my dyno crap http://wotid.com/content/category/5/14/36/

I pointed out to them earlier today that of those "close to 4000 members"
Over 1900 of them have never posted. And many not logged in for more then a year, some years.

KSRC would fall into this category too SenNey (to a lesser extent and ratio)... And i'm sure most forums (whether bike related or not) would suffer similar issues, i.e. people registering but not posting.

The focus should not be taken away from the fact that KSRC has grown to 1000 members in just 2 years. Not bad for a "single-make" club. :D

KSRC has 297 registered members that have never posted.

KSRC approx 30% registered users never posted.
NR approx 50% registered users never to have posted

Yep not bad at all for a "single-make"club :D
