On a normal road bike with decent tyres on, unless you do something silly like grab a handlefull of front anchors, or the road surface is compromised you should run out of ground clearance well before the tyre lets go shouldn't you Dave??? Your not talking a track lowside are ya???

Run out of ground clearance.??? I'm not on a Hornet you know... :D

Nope... it was on the Putty, a tightening right hander, some squared of 218's (thanks to previous owner) and she went down near the edge of the road. I'd say a combination of not so good tyres, the dirty edge of the road and going in a bit too quick all contributed...
It was my fault, I hadn't been on the road for years and expected the bike / tyres to handle the same as the race bike I'd been on previously... it didn't...
Although, with a change of tyres and some tweaking, it does now...

nice Strika

to add to the debate
some of my basic 'mental*' rules for riding-

do it smooth
roll on roll off the throttle
smooth braking BEFORE the corner
squeeze the brake lever..do NOT grab it
keep the head up
watch where ya wanna go
countersteer
use bodyweight shifts sensibly
lean..and lean more if needed
keep your protective space at max
do it at my pace (the rest of you can phark off if ya wanna)

*I think 'bout these all the time while riding

hth

cheers

yep mate
a lot of riders come to grief
when ambition exceeds ability

which is why I spend time while riding thinking about what I am
doing...while doing it
a lot of one's riding skills are not in your hands or legs
but between the ears..sensation, perception vision all there

cheers

That is my ongoing problem. I think it's all good fun until someone loses an eye ... but thinking along these lines will also get me hurt I think :?

The other biggest problem is group riding with someone who is *slightly* faster or slower than me because that's where it's got really fun and start taking risks. If the other guys are insanely fast I can just relax and enjoy the road and blame it on engine capacity or something

I think I'll learn these roll-on roll-off for now.... and taking better lines too! No one gets a throphy anyway by riding it fast (but it's fun damit :D ) shit I want to do trackday now gotta find something to sell

first get together with the club (rossi's housewarming) rob said to me:

There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. Some kind of high powered mutant never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

to quote Strika.......
"Group ride. Sunny day, with clear and clean roads. You are riding in a group of 10 or so riders. The leader is a mate of yours, who rides OK, but is a little slower than you most days. You tag onto his/her tail and follow them along. They see you in the mirrors, and immediately you notice the red mist fall over their visor. They wick it up, gassing the shit outta it to keep ahead of you. In their endeavours to keep ahead of you, they extend themselves further than their comfort zone, and actually start riding slower!!!!!!! They are jumping on the brakes hard and really late, tipping it in, grabbing more brakes mid turn, running wide, and generally heading for a crash. "

...now who is not thinking about what they are doing...????

Yeah I do that when I start thinking too much too   Jump on the brakes...start running wide

I will be honest, there are a few people who I ride with that I constantly watch my mirrors with, as they have a nasty habit of almost running up my chuff under brakes. I guess this is cause my entry speeds are so low

The "Trust your tyres" advice was given to me by James & Pete (plane) in a post I posted to the KNRA forum when I was worrying about taking corners well. When the KNRA forum had an Inaugral Meet at Port Macquarie and we rode the Oxley, (and had a fantastic time with a great bunch of people) I was again reminded to trust my tyres. Since then, remembering that advice, along with some experience up my sleeve, & a set of new tyres, I have really been tipping it in and having a lot of fun.
Cheers,
Anne

I wouldn't be too worried about them going up ya arse
coz most of 'em will be looking at the white line or a car
..on the wrong side of the road
me thinks they will be grabbin' brakes midturn
to stay on the right side...

remember...slow in fast out
will get ya quicker to the next shout
(old bikers hymn  )
