As i mentioned, they are not the most stylish looking unit I have seen (saw one on a couriers Hornet in Sydney this week, that had like a double vurve effect, mirroring the shape of the two clocks which looked horn, but he went past too quick to find out what it was) But they work really well. :D

And thus far mine has been faultless. :)

As far as naked 250s go... the 250 hornets are the best looking IMHO

Yeah I agree, as far as nakeds go, but next to the old 636 it pales into insignifigance! :lol:

I still reckon the 05/06 636 is one of the best looking bikes ever made. 8)

God this thread still going ?.
I reckon the Hornet is an X-File. Its like the smoking man never around when you need it & Annoying the crap outta the good guys when its all over :wink: .

Yeah I was pretty dissapointed bout that too Ponti :( . Believe me mate, I am ALWAYS up for a fang when not busy! :D

Did you guys do the Fraser National park road, around Eildon on the way down????? Balance n I rode up there today. Havn't been there for over 12-14 years I reckon. Road was mint apart from a few small rocks, and a carcass or two :lol:

Had the 6k service done tuesday. What an abortion! :(

Booked it in for 9am tuesday. Dropped it off as per plan, and picked up loan bike to go to the office. 4pm put my gear back on to ride back to pick it up, and the phone rings just as I put my helmet on :x

Pulled the lid of again and answered it.....Err hi! Can we keep the bike overnight....... I said sure, what's the problem??? Thinking they had found an unexpected problem. ......... Errr we have been short staffed and havn't finished it. ( Oil n filter n a go over! It's a minor service).

OK so I say no worries, I will pick it up Friday when I get back from Sydney then!.........Err no, we need our loan bike back. :x ..... So I said Fine..Come and get it! :) All of a sudden they could now finish servicing my bike???? It get's better.

Picked it up and they had snapped a tank bolt, and cross threaded it????? So had to drill it out and now have to retap the thread and helicoil it!!!!! :evil: But they didn't have time to fix it that day :evil:

It gets even better. I ride home and when I get home, I find oil on my boots....and on the cranckcases, and on the engine covers, and chain lube all over the ducktail, swingarm, wheel and had even spun around onto the tread of the rear tyre :shock: :shock: :shock:

I decide I had better check everything. Here's what I found.

1. When fitting the oil filter spilt a god awful amount of oil on the engine and didn't clean it off thus it had blown everywhere.

2. Did not do up the oil filler cap properly and it had also blown oil all over my jeans, boots, engine, swingarm, wheel!!!! :shock:

3. Had put SO much chain lube on, that it had spun around onto the tread of the tyre, and the hot lube had melted and was dripping down the engine cases and onto the road and my concrete when I got home.

4. Had not even adjusted the chain! :evil:

I have asked the service manager for the opportunity to either 1. insert a really rough pineapple up the arse of the complete idiot who serviced the bike. or 2. return the favour by perhaps applying a nice liberal coating of something nice and slippery to this guys tyres. Neither of which the service manager was real keen on I can tell you.

I have since tightened the oil filter by hand, same with the filler cap, used a full two (not kidding) cans of degreaser to remove the excess chain lube (I left enough to keep the chain lubed for at least a month), and adjusted the chain correctly.


What made me a little furious, and also at the same time relieved, was that I normally take the bike for a run through the hills on the way home. If I had it would have let go on the first left hander I had a dip in. As it was I just did the FWY commute back to the office. :shock:

The moral of the story is if the joint needs a service manager dont go there strika.

I know its your new baby qnd get the book signed and all but i think kwacka wanted to carge me 400 bucks with oil and a filter for my first one and the oil and filter is only worth fifty bucks.

The only things i have had mechanically wrong with my bike was after it went to a dealer for a throttlebody sync and kleen air mod, they never bothered hooking the crank vent back up to the airbox so it was sucking whatever out of the atnospere and into the airbox.

The place i go if i need more than a oil and filter the service manager is also the mechanic and the offsider has well done his trade and i can sit and watch so i know the new plugs went into it and whatever i paid for did actually happen.

Never fussed on drop it off and pick it up next week and it dissapears behind a curtain routine.
If I rode my bike at the speed of light, what would happen when I switched on its headlights?

I know loads of bike shops with service managers where their service is actually good. So I disagree a little with that. However you are right in saying that the only reason I service it with a dealer is to retain new vehicle warranty. I know they say, that as long as it is done by a suitably qualified person, technically they can't void yr warranty. However they can make it feckin hard, and then also if you are a borderline warranty case, they may deny the claim.!!! :(

Anyhow, I am still going to give them one more opportunity, as a mate of mine works there (was away this time though). :wink:
