Vic licences...get a discount !

Post by Smitty »

from the VicRoads site....

Driver Reward Scheme

From 1 January 2006, Victorian drivers and motorcyclists with good driving records may be rewarded with a discount on their licence renewal fee under the Driver Reward Scheme.

The Driver Reward Scheme provides Victorian drivers and motorcyclists who have remained demerit point free and have not committed serious safety related traffic offences for a three year period prior to their licence renewal with a 25 per cent discount on the cost of renewing their licence.

Who will be rewarded under the Scheme?

Victorian drivers and motorcyclists with good driving records in the three years prior to renewing their licence will be rewarded under the Scheme’s rules.

Licence holders only qualify for the reward discount if the renewal is produced 3 months prior to the expiry date, or up to 6 months after the expiry date. Outside this timeframe, the full fee must be paid.

When does the Scheme commence?
The Scheme commences on 1 January 2006. That means drivers and motorcyclists whose licences are due for renewal on or after 1 January 2006 will be eligible for a discounted licence.

How will drivers and riders be notified if they are entitled to a discounted licence under the Driver Reward Scheme?
Renewal Expiry 1 January to 31 January 2006
Licence holders with this renewal expiry date period are still eligible for the reward discount. These licence holders will pay the full licence renewal fee and be reimbursed for the reward discount ($10.50 for a 3 year licence and $35.60 for a 10 year licence).

In late January, a letter will be issued to those eligible licence holders informing them they have qualified for the Driver Reward Scheme and it will also contain a refund cheque for the discounted amount. Eligible licence holders will not be required to fill out any refund paperwork, this process will be automated.

Renewal Expiry 1 February to 21 February 2006
Licence holders with a renewal expiry of 1 February to 21 February 2006 will be notified if they are eligible for a reward discount through a letter of congratulations included in their renewal notice. This letter will include payment instructions and the discounted fee to pay. These licence renewal notice will be issued at the full fee rate, however eligible licence holders are entitled to the reward discount.

Renewal Expiry 22 February 2006 Onwards
Drivers and riders in this renewal expiry date period will be informed they have received a discounted licence renewal through a letter of congratulations included with their licence renewal notice. If eligible, the licence renewal notice amount will already reflect the reward discount. Eligible licence holders can then pay their licence renewal through their preferred payment channel.

When will licence holders receive their reward refund?
For eligible licence holders who have paid the full licence renewal amount, refunds will be issued from 1 February 2006 onwards in accordance with the Road Safety Regulations.

What if an eligible driver or rider wants to change their licence renewal period?
All licence holders are able to change their licence renewal period. Customers can change their licence renewal period from three to ten years or vice versa by attending a VicRoads Customer Service Centre, Call Centre or Licence Renewal Outlet where staff will adjust their renewal to take account of the appropriate discount.

What traffic offences will exclude a motorist from receiving a reward?
Demerit point offences and other serious safety related traffic offence (which do not incur demerit points) committed in the three years prior to the expiry of a motorists licence will exclude them from receiving the discounted licence renewal. The following are the main road safety offence categories that result in a licence holder being ineligible under the Scheme:

* Drink Driving and Drug Driving
* Speed Offences
* Seat Belt/Occupant and Restraint Offences
* Unlicensed, Unauthorised and Disqualified Driving
* Traffic Offences Causing Death or Injury (Crines Act)
* Hit and Run and Accident Related Offences
* Dangerous and Reckless Driving Offences
* Fail to obey traffic signs/signals and Roundabout Offences
* Breach of Novice Driver/Rider Conditions
* Fatigue Management
* Misc. Safety Related Offences
* Commercial Driver Offences
* Disobey Police
* Unregistered Vehicle Use

In addition to this, every demerit point offence will result in a licence holder being ineligible.

What is the saving under the Scheme?
Eligible drivers and riders will receive a 25 per cent discount on the cost of renewing their licences. Currently, this equates to $10.50 off the cost of a three year licence renewal, and $35.60 of the cost of a ten year renewal.

Three years
$42.00

Yeah but by the looks of that list of offences excluding you from the discount, you would only have to sneeze in the wrong direction and not be eligable for the discount rates.

I mean how many people on this forum would get the discount??

Up untill Oct last year I would have been able o get it if I lived in Vic, but then again with all your loverly speed cameras :x that are everywhere down there I may not have been :twisted:

Oh well it would be good if NSW (or the rest of Oz for that matter) did a similar scheme, discounts on CTP or rego costs would be better though!

Big bloody whoop...

what a crap response to a good idea...

now if we got a 25% discount on our TAC levies........... that would be a decent response.....

it always shits me when the government introduces something that saves you $30 every 3 years.... Considering they probably investigated it first and spent 1 million dollars to see if it is feasible...

I think it is insulting.... $10 a year for behaving....

Yeah, but it's 3rd party bodily insurance. You wouldn't want to pay for 20+ years of rehab if you injured someone badly enough.
