I saw once a report of a kid who suffered brain damage in a car accident. Seems straight forward (though very tragic) but the detail is one in a million.
Child and parents driving along the road and pass a truck coming the other way. Just as truck is passing it picks up a half brick lying on the road between it's rear twin wheels. Brick is released through centrifugal force and has enough energy to pierce the rear window of car and badly damage childs skull.
Man, when you're number is up.......

Just one more law and everyone will be safe.

You will be all glad to know that planes also use retreads, yes, even all the big airliners that we fly when we go domestic and overseas.
Have you seen the price of a new 44" 737 tyre? Not cheap, mind you the safety aspects and inspection regimes are far stricter when it comes to planes so the trye carcass has a certain lifespan then it's chucked.
Planes still get blowouts too though.

About 2 years ago, me, wife and kids driving to Brisbane. Truck tyre delaminates next to us at 100 km/h. Thought someone had gotten shot. And not with a pissy little gun either. I couldn't believe the noise it made. Didn't do the inside of my underwear any favours either. Had a big steel ring (about 5 feet in diameter) fall off the back of a truck in front of me years ago while on the bike. Luckily it glanced of the car in front of me or I would have worn it. Cattle trucks, sheep carriers, coal trucks. All should be given wide berths. But, as I keep telling my mum (I'm 42, married with 3 kids and she still worries about me) when your numbers up, it doesn't matter where you are or what you're driving/riding, it's up.
If a man says something, and there is no woman there to hear him, is he still wrong?
