Wheel polishing places in SA

Post by Shaman »

Hey all,

Just wondering if anyone would happen to know where I should look here in SA in regards to wheel polishing - I'm really keen on getting it done on the ZX2R and want to know if anyone here has had it done anywhere and how much it costed etc.

If anyone could provide me some names etc, that'd be great :)

Talk to Plas tomorrow.

He knows a place down here that you can get it done at.
Thinks its about 80 bucks per wheel to get the out side edges done.

wheel polishing

Post by briffa »

I polished the wheels on my zzr1200 by using paint stripper and some wet and dry, then I used mother metal polish.
took 6 hrs.

That looks great - are the wheels made of aluminium, by the way? Also, did you remove the wheels from the bike to do it, or did you do it whilst they were still on there?

EDIT: sorry - thought you said 'I used another metal polish' - question answered :D

Did you use a dremel / drill with polishing attachment?

hehe sorry for all the questions - I'd prefer to do it myself :P

Polished wheels

Post by briffa »

Ok yes sorry about the post as it is a little messed up.
Anyway
I stripped the wheels with them still on the bike just did small areas at a time.
I tapped off the rubber so I didn't get any paint stripper on the rubber.
Everything done by hand no power tools so that I didn't dig into the rims themselves.
The front rim was just stripped of paint and polished with Mother's metal polish which has a few ridges in them and the back was sanded with fine wet and dry and then polished.
Now all I do is grap the wife's Mr Sheen furniture polish once a week and 5 mins later it is shiny as ever.
Cheers
Paul
