05 ZX6R popping out of second

Yeah, parts on back order from Japan can take up to 3 weeks to get here. Any longer than that though and you start asking questions. The problems in this case is that they then have to put it all back together again :roll:

What would air freight cost from Japan on small stuff like gearbox stuff?

The big thing is though, they aren't keen on sending them in any hurry, i know they used to do surface only, im not sure if thats what they do now still. But they are pretty damned stubborn on getting it shipped in any freaking hurry.

So why isn't there a regular supply shipped over?

Not enough demand?

Ever heard of JIT shipping? the parts are sent as per demand. Why take up space in the warehouse with 40 parts that took ages to sell when you can stock 250 parts instead of 210 parts of something that gets replaced regularly
and the poor bastard that needs the other parts will have to wait for them to get shipped over from japanland.

(this differs from JIT used in industry where they are made and sent exactly as per demand times, they arent going to KNOW that you bin your bike and need a new footpeg, they have their requirements and in business schedule them over time to fill them and minimise backlog.)

I had mine in for a service last week and have had a few false neutrals and has popped out of gear a couple of times. I put it down to not positive changing, but will be kepping a close eye on it.

The worse one was yesterday between 1st - 2nd gear when it actually took up 2nd and was accelerating, when it popped out of gear. Not to bad i hear you say.... I was on the back wheel, it came down hard and i smacked the boys against the tank. :oops:

(know thoses impacts where the whole area stings) :shock:

Mate, that is pretty much exactly how it started for me..... I also put it down to lazy changes....unfortunately not.......mate, hope yours doesn't end up off the road like mine!

Can get a shift star thingy from the states but it isnt cheap but then again neither are gearbox rebuilds.

Of course i also believe that the transmission should last at least as long as the engine and they are sportsbikes so arent going to be ridden like a moped unfortunaltly some moped gearboxes are better built.

I just go easy on the gearbox/drivetrain and hope.

But, when you think about it., how long should it take competent mechs in a well-equipped workshop to drop a motor out, split the cases, pull the gearbox out, replace the chewed-out clusters, and reverse the whole process.

A day, tops.

You're right, but that's only if it's the only job they are doing. They still have to do all the scheduled 12,000km services on titanium ZX10R's before their trip to PI as well :wink:

Hmmm bugger, will have to keep a close eye on her then.. Hope yours gets sorted sooner rather than later champ.
