How to get Melted plastic off my exhaust

Post by MrStompy »

a few months ago i accidentally let a bungy strap get on the hot exhaust of my bike.

The plastic melted onto the pipe and i am still left with a mark/stain/discolouration or whatever you want to call it on the pipe.

I havent tried all that hard to clean it off - just normal bike washing and i did try some wd40 on it the other day.

Any ideas on how to get rid of the mark or have i left it too long now?

Its not that big a deal but every time i see it i get the sh!ts about it.

Maybe a scouring pad or metal polish i know it takes ages to burn off, had some people run over big chunks of plastic road debris like shrink wrap off pallets and even if they pull it off later it stinks for a week.

Main thing is whatever you use you dont want to damage the can.
If I rode my bike at the speed of light, what would happen when I switched on its headlights?

Bungy Strap on your hot bike?

You had a pillion who was bike-parasailing?

My guess is nothing beats scourer and elbow grease...

I would be worried about using a scourer.... You dont want to scratch anything...

Have you tried some Kerosine?

I'd experiment with different types of solvent. acetone, turps, etc. If you have one that your not sure about try it under the pipe in a hidden spot first but I cant think of any solvent that would attack chrome. Rubber and plastic are made out of oil, which is basically carbon. So you have burnt carbon on there. You could try leaving a rag soaked in "Coke" on it, I hear that will eat anything.
Just don't use "Diet Coke" or else your pipe will get a brain tumor. Hey Bob

Be worth trying some silvo or something like that I reckon, in regards to a scourer, one of those green sponge/scourers probably should be ok as they're abrasive but not coarse.[/b]

Rubbers made out of hightech synthetic materials, which is basically a lifesaver. So if you have herpes. You could try leaving a rag soaked in "Juice O' Neka" on it, I hear that will eat anything.
Just don't use "Neka's facial moisteriser" or else your meathelmet will get a brain tumor. Hey Bob

I always get boot burn (black rubber) on my mid pipe,

use a real fine cloth with heaps of silvo, that will do it.

DO NOT USE A SCOURER - IT WILL SCRATCH

Have you tried candle wax ala cleaning an iron... get the pipe hot and rub the candle across the gunk and wipe with damp cloth, (Martha Stewart Style) see if it removes it. otherwise... farked if I know but just don't use anything abrasive....

Cheers
