This daycare centre in Rockhampton recons that my boy was attending for three months longer than he actually was. We said "ok give us documentary proof that he was in the form of sign in sheets etc and we'll pay." They rang a few times and every time we said this and they said they'd find them. Today a debt collector phoned my missus and says pay up or we'll report you to the cra. Not Happy Jan!

Ah so thats why the move to Canberra...

We had a similar unpleasant experience with a day car centre who kept sending us bills when our son had stopped going there... He stopped going there because they were assholes and didn't look after the kids, he would come home with bruises and bite marks. We told em to piss off or would take the photos of his injuries to the authorities... We didn't hear from them again and they refunded our deposit in full.
When we checked what we'd payed them I don't think we payed for the last week anyway...

That Sucks cause they bloody will put your name down and stuff you up... Their has to be a place to report this cause thats just bullshit. Keep us posted hey?

I can't remember who said it but, I'm as mad as hell and I'm not going to take it any more!
Seeing as I live in Canberra now I thought I'd start by having a chat to the minister that looks after Centrelink about how this daycare facility has been ripping off the government buy taking subsidy payments for kids who don't go there anymore, and I know we aren't the only ones they have done this too. They are going to rue the day they tried this on with us.

the 'ol 'demanding money with menaces' offence

not sure if this applies in all of Oz...
but
in Vic, if someone does that and you are absolutely certain
they are wrong, get their details (name etc )
and
then tell them if they insist on continuing to demand money from
you, you will report them to the local police CIB or Fraud squad
for doing so (advice courtesy of a member of the Fraud squad here in Vic)
and
you can also report them to the licencing board
(all debt collectors in Vic have to be licenced)

tell them to send a letter 'proving the debt' and you will pay it.
If they cannot prove it...stop demanding money! (IOW..piss off)

clearly you can tell my children have not become teenagers yet !!

Darren - you need to engage a solicitor, and write them a letter with an intention to sue for pain, anxiety and depression..........one or two letters with a 'ball-park' figure of $100,000 should see them off your back pretty quickly....
