Using bike stand?
OK, got my bike stand from ebay, have purchased pick up knobs, do I need a 2nd person or is there a method for when I am by myself, to get it onto the stand? And off again? Thank you

put a small block of wood under side stand so bike is more upright
(just be careful it does not overbalance)
slide end of each stand arm under swingarm as far back as you can go
(or stand clips go onto swingarm knobs if you have this type of stand)
at this point
the end of the whole stand sticks up in the air
then
steadying bike with one hand you push down on the end of the
stand with the other hand or maybe use your foot (I do)
front of stand slides along tilting/picking up bike as it goes
and no not a lot of strength is required
but first time having a helper is good!
to get bike down off stand....
standing on RH side facing bike , stick left foot infront of stand so it does not move and just push bike forward (remembering to have bike side stand DOWN )
hold bike upright as you push forward and then let bike tilt over onto side stand...done
hth

i bought a long handle'd one, so its easier to lift
and i have a rack so line the stand up, push bike to upright and lift the bike up with the stand.
to get it off, i stand behind the bike and lift the stand up and drop it onto the wheel and let it fall slowly onto stand

coz I have seen on a number of occasions (like last ride day at PI)
smarties who's bike ended up on the ground
when they did it

the object of the exercise is to get the bike off..and upright
bloody expensive if it hits the deck
remember we are teaching someone new at it
cheers

Lighten up man, I really don't think he would attempt to perform such a trick when he's first taken ownership of his new stand........I do not recommend that

Hey Bud, first time i did it, i shat myself. (shouldn't be this hard
) I didn't read all the shite above
but here's what i do.
I put the bike on the stand.... Move the race stand undermeath... Stand on the opposite side of the stand (side of the can) and tip the bike to my leg, while supportimg... Move stand under pickup knobs and when i have them secure, i firm my grip on the stand and push down. Oh fark bike is in the air and looking pretty
Reason for this is, i figure if i lose grip, it will plonk back on the stand
Haven't dropped it once. (now runs for wood, but figures his head is full of the shite
)
Practice, with caution

Once you've got the hooks on the pickup knobs your laughing. A bit of pressure will hold it upright, just hold the tail somewher to stabilise it until your used to it.. Once your used to it just drop the bastard off the stand and drag the arse over to the side stand.
I subscribe to the quicker is better school of thinking. Haven't dropped one yet though

I DID IT!!!!
Got a piece of wood from work today, placed under sidestand "as per "Smitty"" *thanks mate*, and got it up in one go, then walked around and thought how cool it looks, then put her back down, a little quicker than I meant to, but it worked.
Thanks to everyone for their tips and instructiions

Ok now a word of warning, if you have washed your pride and joy and are heading for the chunky bit on the chain wait till the bike is dry rather than trying to put it on the stand wet as i did once and the back end of the bike was like hanging onto a bar of soap.

If I rode my bike at the speed of light, what would happen when I switched on its headlights?
