best way bust open fuel cap lock?? *solved*
I have my project 03 ZX6R running without the key now, but the fuel light is on!
The key hole is smallish....too small for the hammer and screwdriver technique me thinks.
Suggestions please!!

get the picture
why not remove the entire..tank filler assembly
with lock in it..and drill out lock mechanism
this way....
no damage to tank
and no bits in the tank
and from memory, its 6 allen head bolts to undo (and replace)
that make sense?
cheers

can't you remove the surround and pull the hinge out? If it's a pin you should be able to tap it out...
The locking assembly only locks from the outside edge and relys on the hinge to brace it... If that works then you can remove the lock and just have it reset to a new key.

If its anything like the tank on my ZX7 or the ER-5 even if you undo the surround you still cant get the cap assembly of the tank because it locks into the neck of the tank, I had to open the cap to get the assembly of the tank.can't you remove the surround and pull the hinge out? If it's a pin you should be able to tap it out...

i assume you bought the bike at auction with no key?
might be worth giving kawasaki australia a call and asking if they can try to contact the original owner to see if he has a spare key and is willing to sell you it for a small fee...
a mate did this with a 1000RR he got at the auctions with no key... he gave honda $30 for their trouble and they were happy enough to do it... the guy gave him a ring not long after and gave him the key for $50

what a prick! charging the dude $50 for the key! I would have bought a new ignition out of principle, screw him, he just got a new bike through insurance! the damn key is useless to him anyway!SocialSecurity wrote:a mate did this with a 1000RR he got at the auctions with no key... he gave honda $30 for their trouble and they were happy enough to do it... the guy gave him a ring not long after and gave him the key for $50
