Once again, when I was married the only thing we drove where hotted up cars. Now I have my little Kermie and NOTHING in the world compairs to the feeling of being on a bike. I will suggest though B4 you look at speed etc you learn how to ride and how to ride safely not only for yourself but for all other riders. A bike can be a shit load of fun IF you treat it and other riders with respect......

Having lived the car life and changed to the bike life.. cars don't have shit on bikes. I've had a turbo Supra, turbo VL, and two twin-turbo Toyota Coronas (yes, I just said that) and when I got on a 250cc bike it was a whole new world - a better one.

Cornering on a bike is so much more exhilarating than in a car, and even a bargain-basement 250cc bike (my first one cost $1770) would give a ten-times-the-cost 200sx a run for its money at legal speeds. Sure, you can stick an exhaust on it, intercooler, k&n, bit of a tune, etc... but as an example a mate did that an ran 13.5@105mph at the drags... and my last bike which was 21 years old ran 12.1@117mph completely unmodified.... and it cost $3,400.

Buy a bike. But don't do it if you're not prepared to wear proper safety gear, budget about $2k for a good set of kit that will last you a long time.

Thanks for all the replies guys you told me exactly what i wanted to hear but thats why i posted it on these forums and not on a car forum in the first place ive decided to organise doing my Ls and make my decision from there, by the sounds of things it isn't going to be a hard one + seeing as i already have a crap car for going to the bottleshop and taking my girl on road trips and such im halfway there.

when i said unpopulated I didn't mean to offend anyone what i meant was "hopefully noone will rip off my head for posting this somewhere i shouldn't have" Most forums im on have I prefer smaller forums.. gives a more local feel to the place.

As for the cars rotars kick ass and i respect them but i'd never own one. 200sx hairdressers car? why do you say that ? maybe if i wanted a ford capri or a mirage now THAT would be hairdresser style.
As for the P's law in nsw my liscence was issued before the bullshit v8/turbo/sc laws so i can drive anything i can afford.
Don't worry i'd be getting all the right riding gear first ive read and seen the pictures of what happens to "squids" so im pre-learned on what will happen to my skin if i don't prepare for the worst.

I divide my time between cars and bikes - the ZZR250 is good day-to-day fun (and will eventually be replaced by something a little more exciting) - and the 1994 WRX rally car sitting in my driveway will *eventually* provide some fun on the occasional weekend

I also own a Toyota Celica GT4 (1988) which is immobile at the moment but is probably only about as quick as the '250.

To be fair to cars - they are a HELL of a lot safer to get around on than bikes, so make sure you buy all the proper safety gear as well!

I'm lucky in that I have both ie ZX10 and SS Commodore but if I had to choose it'd be a no contest.

You have a car for transport. If it happens to be a quick one that's a bonus. You have a bike for fun. Even if your commuting on a 250, it's fun and shits on the car.

If your looking for fun the bike wins hands down i have a 2003 xr8 and zx9 and a z900 the bike is certainly more fun the old z900 is more fun than the car even though its 30 years old,

Good luck finding an s anything that will keep up with a stock road bike off the line, even after 10-20K spent on it... Just not worth it if you just want some speed/acceleration.. When you can spend 6-16K on a bike.. Something like a 98 ZX6R through to a new 6 or 10... 250's will push a long abit, but once you step upto 600's and above there isn't reallly any competition..

So as far as bang for your buck, bikes win hands down... fuel, speed, acceleration. they just luck out on some of the conveniences that come with a car... a roof (to keep you dry if it rains) heating & cooling (for obvious reasons).


And bikes also offer a freedom that no car can offer.

I have a worked 1990 statesman that has cost me close to $40k so far and a zthou. If your looking at a 200sx you will probably go down exactly the same road as far as spending a fortune on it just to keep up with the current trends.
Take it from someone who has been down that road recently and buy a bike. Think of the bikes that $40k could get you.
