I have one friend who swears by Bridgestone and I know there are the BT014s, BT012s and BT002s. He has a ZX10 and has the 002s on his. He suggests I step up to the 012s which are a little grippier than the 014s.

I have another friend who swears by Michelin. I know there are the Pilot Powers but are there any others?

Don't forget about the Michelin Pilot Power Race, Diablo Corsa's & Supercorsas and metzlers etc.

If you are pretty much going to just have fun on it, I know Tsar from the OCAU forums loves his Power Race's or Pilot Races, he did mention that you do have to be a bit carefull when cold but then they stick like the perverbial shit to a blanket.

Also, I know there is a guy on those forums that sells slightly used Power Race's (Chris Burke is his name) and that is where a few ppl have been getting theres, pretty cheap and lets ya have a good try at them prior to deciding to lash out! as they are a bit $$$. I-K also put a set or two, from Chris if I am not mistaken, of those on his 6R i believe, ask him about his opinions on them also.

Cheers :)

Hey quickchick!
Try pilot powers, you will get good kilometerage out of them too.
Then there will be no excuse not to be faster than me around eastern creek.
..well i suppose i have a 300cc advantage and less fear of bodily harm

Pilot powers would be fine for a 6r there mostly what i used for road and track tyres but they will go off if you start flogging the bike around a track in the hot hot sun.

Depends a bit on whats available too and if price is a concern, power race was my next pick for road tyres just for the local stuff but wouldnt comute on them and i dont think they would like the rain either.

There was a bloke at the track the other day had about 3 sets of dunlops to suit a 600cc bike they where dot race spec and whatever they where using for superstock this year?? but he had them out at 125 a pair and they looked like they had only done a day so a good option to try something diferent.

wont go too far wrong with the piliot powers and it takes a while to work your way through all the brands.
If I rode my bike at the speed of light, what would happen when I switched on its headlights?

1. Please, I never questioned Swabio's riding ability. If anything I actually complimented him when I stated "you sound like you know what yr doing" :?

2.They snap!

swabio-ACT wrote:When I say that they are subective, i mean in that each persons riding styles are different, and that suits differing types and mix of tyre. All I am doing is commenting on my 'PERSONAL' experience with the bridgie 014's as fitted OEM to the 05/06 ZX6R.

To me it is mostly that people listen to people who they think know what they are talking about. They then go and fit brand X of tyres to the bike, and lo and behold they are instantly faster and extole the virtues of the new tyres. Why??? Confidence. Truth be know Swabio, most road guys wouldn't know feedback if it bit them on the bum. I hate to be brutally honest, but most road guys are exactly this way, although they will never admit it. The feedback they talk about is over bumps and at half lean. I mean really ask yourself what limits they are testing here????

I haven't had the displeasure of having the pilot's let go, and have thrown a fair bit at them, they do get a little squirelly out of some of the corners when I really get on it. Again, personally i find them to be a better tyre. I found the Bridgies were a much easier tyre to have break away, and they did that to me a few times, both cold and after a bit of spirited riding. In the warm they were much better, but in the cold they honestly sucked. they were all over the shop, and I am talking about opposite lock moments when being very gentle on them, whereas the powers were much less prone to break away, on the same roads under the same crappy cold temperature ranging from -9 to a whopping 1 or two degrees.

Once again I will say, that obviously it was pressure related! I have ridden on both at the track and on the road, in road compounds. Yeah for sure the michie pilots have good grip. And as you say the rear can get a little squirmy when on the gas exiting a turn. But just wait till your front lets go Swabio, then come talk to me. :D

Can I suggest you read this...

As your all suggesting your no experts, this is by ppl that are.

BTW, I run pilot powers (from Mick) and they are fine. A little more grip for the track would be nice, but there good enough to do 1:45's, so far.

Well it's just obvious isn't it! You're older than me (na na na na!) so are a better rider, and your on a ZX9 racebike and i am on my 636 roadbike. you run 1.45's at the ck on pilot powers, and I run 1.47's at P.I. on BT014's! the Creek is 3 seconds a lap quicker than the Island. So,....Obviously when you add it all up the BT014's are a better tyre. Facts don't lie do they Madkaw?

These guys can't be serious about this being a fair test. every different tyre needs setting to the right pressures to make them work to their optimum. These guys are testing those tyres at a racetrack, so why are they running 36, Psi in the front and 38 in the rear FFS. I really cannot believe you could consider this test as anything but fluff to fill some pages. Lets get some sets and chuck em on a race bike and test them by adjusting things till we get each tyre working as it should and then compare them. What a crock of shit!

No they don't so you should get em right..
I run 1:40 at Eastern creek on a zx9r race bike.... So the facts are Dunlop slicks are better....

I have been to the creek once on my zx10 (after a 12 month lay off) and on the 2nd session was doing 1:45's on pilot powers. First time on the bike and first time on road tyres, so I'll only get quicker.. and you.??. :-)

It was my first time on it too. Matter of fact I was still running it in!
