I think a bloke by the moniker (apologies to any Monica's out there) want's a radiator guard.
Fred thinks there shite because they make your engine hotter and therefore wear quicker
Turns out Fred is actually NeilP who doesn't seem to like Ponti's idea of letting people know what he does via the club
Most everyone else think's this is shite because they want to know what Ponti does and if he makes stuff cheaper they want to buy it.
Gos is heavier then 85kg's
Rossi has a strap on....which Lucas has seen
NeilP wants a set of leg warmers
In an unfortunate accident Greeny seems to have hit his head against a brick wall
Duane thinks women who drink tea get too much sun
and Mick C said there's storms in Canberra but its' OK cause he's nibbling chips off his shoulder.
and as you can tell from the above I've got too much time on my hands and should go home.
Whats' confusing????????
It's really all about standing around drinking Dave's beer.

Too many toys.......work is getting in the way!!!!
Ah thats whats going on, here i was thinking it was all a big huff about nothing!!!
(and yes an engine running warmer shouldnt wear out faster if its still well within specification, its like asking which will cause an engine to wear out more, riding it in the same way over the same distance in a Canberra winter, or summer in Cairns.
What,s wrong with you girlies? all I asked was for some info, you then hang shit on a fellow member for helping me,some of you need to take a good look in the mirror you lippy is getting smudged.
thanks Smitty, thought I had made a reasonable contribution to the thread too Also given potikats highly successful commercial enterprise on here i'm now copyrighting the idea of headlight protectors as tank/gut protectors so if anyone uses it i'm owed a commission
Note that commission will be waived if I score the 20k from Shannons but not holding ym breath there

I just starting using Kartman's "Weight Gain 2000" powder formula so maybe I should pre-order before you guys get shut down for being the next Peter.V.Stephens. Fcuk next you'll be franchising it!

reminds me - Brett , you used to do a thing with *funny* threads and/or pisstakes, whatever happened to that ?? I remember it vaguely from when I first joined, but haven't seen it for a while ??
It was piss-funny as I remember - this thread would be a motza..

Just saw this discussion. Quite interesting, but the arguments made for it making the bike hotter go without saying, and anyone who thinks otherwise really needs to get a sense of logic about them.
No matter what radiator guard you put on your bike, ALL of them will restrict the air flow to some degree. Reducing the air flow will thus reduce the capacity of the radiator to reject heat into the atmosphere. At moving speeds this will ne hardly noticable, as often the airflow is higher than required to reject the required amount of heat from the motor or "system". Some radiator guards may work slightly better than others from a thermal point of view, but they all provide a good level or protection. Thing about what guard you want though, as I think some guards (IMO) won't quite fit the bill.
One of the reasons I don't want to buy a 'radguard' branded guard is that I think the mesh is infact too large. If you travel a 200km/h, a friggen bee, or a wasp or some moths etc will put dents in your radiator. I know, because i've picked them out! I'd prefer something with a smaller mesh to stop all the things that come my way. Atleast you can take it off, hose it out backwards etc, or even just replace it full stop. I'll also happily take the fact that it will run a little hotter in traffic.
Essentially you've got a few options. Run without a radiator guard and the radiator will detoriate more rapidly over time, but run cooler ... for "a while". Remember that the more stones, bugs n crap that get in there, they keep bending the fins and reducing the effectiveness of the radiator to do it's job. After doing some decent touring and following other bikes your rad will start to reduce it's capacity noticably.
If you run a radiator guard, you immediately lose a very small amount of heat rejection capacity, but you know that the current capacity will last for a hell of a lot longer than a radiator without a guard. Essentially you trade a small amount of heat rejection capacity for something that will work for a long time without problems. It will also prevent the expensive one, which is a rock straight through the radiator!
Some other options are available, you can also buy stainless mesh and just lock wire it on to your rad guard. The ones that Pontikat are making seem pretty nice though, and have a surround on the mesh as well.
