I also have a '00 ZX9R. I have a Pontikat radguard fitted. It has worked well so far. No damage to radiator. The only thing that may scare ya, is it runs a bit hotter in traffic, but as long as yer fan works, ther is no real drama, except for the extra warmth on yer legs in summer

As I have said, only in traffic, on a hot day. We have digital temp gauge. The hottest it got was 110. Fan cuts in at 105 regardless. Once ya get going, everything returns to normal.

my 9R with no radiator guard tends to run pretty hot in stop go or even slow moving traffic regardless

Fred so it's "NeilP to the Rescue Again". It's really interesting to see what posts fire you up Neil.

The Radectors i manufacture, at a third of the price of an over the counter one are stronger, look better & are easier to clean. They will make a bike run slightly hotter sitting in traffic (2-3 degrees C) & take like 1 - 2 minutes to get back to normal opperating temperatures once moving again. Therefore the Thermo fan is running more during Start/stop conditions. I have not seen or heard of any increasing Maximun temperatures or any other concerns. So i cant see how it could possibly cause any concerns besides warmer legs when your feet are down.
Imho I actually think they would be a Huge benefit in the colder climates as it gets the motor to opperating temperature sooner from cold starts.

So Dear Fred (NeilP) or any other alias's, if this is going to be another excuse for you start with personal attacks against me on behalf of your Phone buddy please have the decency to let me know. i dont mind at all mate go Hard, I'll just turn the PC off till it's over.

Dont know what your saying about personal attacks here Pontikat, but it seems to me that your the one doing the attacking here!
While I am "no engineer" I know that added heat is bad especially the type of heat cycling that you get in stop go traffic. Anything that causes your cooling system to work harder/more often is not good for the longevity of your motor.
Anyone else like to shoot me down here???

I would think that even a commercially offered radiator guard would do the same thing. I have no complaints. In normal traffic or on a ride it runs at normal temperature, so I do not see any problems. If temp gets to 115 then a light comes on, and that is when ya have to wirry. Haven't had that problem so all is cool, except in traffic

I think, but will wait for Pontikats reply, I think what he is getting heated about is the fact that someone has to hide their true identity. If ya can't come out and say something as yer true self, then don't say it at all. Mind you, i picked Fred's identity a long time ago. Something about the way he signs off. But just ignore me tonight, i am on the booze
