No more making lanes

Post by motomark »

Hi

Just thought i would raise the topic about the government trying to stop us bikers from lane spliting. Have they heard that is helps ease conjestion, therefor helps save fuel, therefore is better for the enviroment. I know poor excuses, but typical of the suits to have no common sense and to waste time with these minor topics like this, instead of dealing with real issuses, like getting drink drivers of the road etc etc

Anyway, they (goverment) should ride bikes to work, not drive cars, thats if the government really cares about the enviroment and traffic conjestion.......

We should take action - let's blockade Government offices!

Oh wait, Mark's already been doing that. :)

Seriously though, I hope that if this stupid proposal does make it to law, that it will just be unenforceable and police will ignore it.

There is already an action being planned for March I believe in relation to the $50 levy, no reason you can't voice your opinion re lane splitting as well. Check out http://www.nmcins.com.au and there should be details posted there.

Can you imagine the following:...

Its a hot day.... one of those days you get over here.... 39 degrees in the shade at 9AM.... you are on the motorway.... and the sun is beating down on your black leathers.... and you have 2km of traffice stretched out in front of you...
The world is round. It has no point.

Just received in my email.

Ride to Rule – Congestion Awareness Ride on Wednesday 25th January. The purpose of this Awareness Ride will be to demonstrate just how much extra congestion will be created if Lane Splitting is not legalised.
During this ride, riders will proceed at normal traffic speeds but will explicitly ride in a manner that the proposed rules require.

For further information on this matter please contact John Karmouche at lanesplitting@mraa.org.au or on 03 9877 3004

If the laws are passed, is anyone here actually going to stop splitting/filtering?

I filter all the time, but dont really split lanes at higher speeds, mostly because I dont commute any roads with that much congestion.

The laws wont stop me lane filtering at the lights, unless of course there are police about
