It will be the reeds fluttering in the air injection boxes - they are located on the rocker cover. They tick like crazy some days, other days you can hardly notice them.

The cam pitting thing is well documented - cause is pure speculation, but it seems that the condition develops and then causes ...

Been sniffing around on a US zzr1200 board. Seems that some 2002 and 2003 bikes ZZR's have reported pitting. There is a mixed opinion as to the cause - most report no change in performance for pitted cams.

Given the number of ZZR's made by K.... and the number of posts actually reporting the ...

The HPC on valve springs would make 'em look nice, but wouldn't much else for the cams.
Nitriding the cams is probably an option, but if the cams have too brittle a surface, higher-than-stock tension springs will still accelerate the wear rate on the lobes.
Most cams are treated to reduce surface ...

Bonester - the number of claims that the Corporate HQ must get in a day would probably be a bit surprising.

I guess that sometimes one or two may seem shonky...... the last thing that they (or you) want to do is shell out for someone else's "problem".

On this occasion, they have decided that ...

I can remember a post on the ZRXOA board that mentioned cam lobe wear being accelerated by high valve spring tensions. It was probably more for aftermarket springs..... I guess.

The ZZR cams are a popular mod. for the ZRX (along with an extra point or two of compression) and worth about 10 ...

If you think that Speciak K are a tuff crowd to deal with - don't ever consider a Ford, Holden or Nissan.

Let them fix it - then fill the sucker up with good quality oil and ride it.

The problem may never come back to you again. If it does, worry about it then.

Re: Flashlube

why he waste money...?
Flashlube is used to combat valve seat recession problems in vehicles
NOT equipped for unleaded petrol,
the Honda surely is equipped for ULP...
it has VERY hard valve seats

cheers
Yep.... it is a ULP version, but stuff still wears out.

He told me that he wanted to take ...

Flashlube

A mate of mine recently did a head gasket on his CB1000 - while the head was off he thought that it would be a good time for a valve grind and general clean-up.

To his surprise (and most everyone else's) the valves and seats were like new, with next to no deposits or visible wear. He claims to ...

Have you checked to make sure that the aircleaner lid is properly sealed / seated ?

Sounds more like severe lean condition rather than a partial blockage.

Go to the nearest Caltex servo' and buy a bottle of TECHRON Concentrate. It is basically a fuel system cleaner, but it works extra well on carbs and fuel injectors.

Put the whole bottle in your tank, then fill the tank with Caltex PULP. The techron will dissolve varnish and gum that the LRP may ...

re: Ivans jet kit anyone?

I think that by following the "instructions", you should get a pretty noticeable improvement in performance.
Ivan doesn't recomment K&N's with his "non pods" jet kits..... apparently the K&N's flow characteristics can cause a lean air/fuel ratio at varying rates of flow !!! So.... he sticks with ...
