Re: 03 zx12r number 4 misfiring
mmmm, some more good info there. Thanks. O.K, sounds like i should get the battery tested, then I will do a valve clearance check, but i think i will do compression check first. Seems to me to make sense to check compression before doing valve clearance check.... So, if i have a "tight" valve (which ...

Re: 03 zx12r number 4 misfiring
Compression test is next....
I have now made my compression testing device...the theory behind it is sound, just the practical to put it to the test now.
IF!!!! after my compression test proves that I am down in one lung, (as suspected).... lets say it's not only valve clearance! but, I also have a ...

Re: 03 zx12r number 4 misfiring
Yeah, other side of the ditch a bit too far....
I went to a hydraulics shop today and got a 3/16ths inch hose (wire reinforced) with a 1/4 bsp male crimped on one end,(to go to pressure guage) the other end i have a 1/4 inch bsp male, that i will take to work (engineering machine shop) along with an ...

Re: 03 zx12r number 4 misfiring
Yep, Yep, Yep.....
I reckon so.....
Any ideas on the best way to plumb up a compression tester? or has some one already made the perfect tester for the zx12 and put it on the market, so all i have to do is go buy one???

Re: 03 zx12r number 4 misfiring
Pulled the throttle body out today to check suspect injector.... gave it a good clean out whilst activating the switch on off on off..... reassemble, Arrrrrggghhhh :x
Still no better!
I noticed while looking down into the ports, that there seemed to be a bit more carbon/gunk build up at the bottom ...

Re: 03 zx12r plug change
Thanks for that tip.
I done the screw driver trick on the suspect injector, it's clicking away nicely, sounds the same as others.
I put a wire into the yellow connector in the "BOOT" and grounded it as you explained, and the FI light lit up, and stayed on????? no series of flashes.....

Re: 03 zx12r number 4 misfiring
I'm thinking that it probably is actually working, but possibly blocked. Good idea though, will try the screw driver trick....
Battery is just over a year old, and still quite strong.
Thanks.

Re: zx9r rattle
I had a 95 9r, with 35000k on it when i bought it.... it too had a rattle.... i wasnt all that concerned about it. as above stated "old kwakka rattles" sounds normal.
Next time i saw my kwakka guru mate and had him listen and look at it, he said, "don't worry about it. It sounds like the starter ...

03 zx12r number 4 misfiring
My zx12r was running like shit. Its stock standard, with 14000 k on it. I pointed a temp laser at header pipes, the two inside pipes read the same, number 1 was about 30% down, number 4 was about 50% down....i put a new set of plugs in it, now 1,2 and 3 are the same, but 4 is still down about 50%. I ...

03 zx12r plug change
Just put a fresh set of plugs in my 12r. After reading a few posts of "how to" and getting the impression that it was a REAL nightmare of a job.
It took me about 40 minutes to get fairings off and first plug out, #4. Once i worked out how to release the coil wiring plug, I was pushing down with ...

Re: zx12r flat spot
yeah, all the usual stuff i suppose.... It's only done 11500k, it's all stock original as, and yes smitty, it is efi, so wont be looking at carbs :) or plugs for a few more k yet, usually good for about 20k, definately not looking at valve clearance yet, i think i'll go with the basics first, check ...

zx12r flat spot
Hi guys, i posted this fault on the general discussion page, but not a lot of feed back there.
My 2003 zx12r has a small but annoying flat spot from idle to just above idle. When i give it a quick little blip/squirt, it will give one, maybe two little coffs before it revs on nice and smooth right ...
