Ok so sorted a chain yesterday to check if it was alright and she rides fine, 2hr ride no issues what so ever so think i got very lucky i didnt damage anything.

I can not only see the square lip but I can perfectly see the round polished part of the spacer, probably about a quarter of the cylinder part of the spacer.
