Re: GPz 900 problems

For $40 go buy some new leads and give that a try.
Mine had pots missing and poor power, massive flat spots.
New leads, plugs and a carbie balance and all is good.

except for the effing rain.... :x

What about Gpz900r?
Not really rare I know but iconic? Definitely.
Possible collectors item in the future, quite possibly.

The big question is does the engine stop if you let the clutch out in neutral?

Re: GPz600R ignition?

If you have a manual then you are half way there.
I have a hard copy Clymer and a soft copy of some unknown manual off the net.
They disagree about valve operation and position when setting the timing

Just goes to show you still need some nouse when playing with these things. Unfortunately ...

Re: GPz600R ignition?

$10 says the plug leads arse about.
Plug lead connections at coils should be from left to right sitting on the bike 1,4,2,3.

Worth doing the 17" front wheel conversion too if you want the best tyres available.

Re: 900r finally sorted

Back on the road again. :D :D
New chain and sprockets, clean oil, new filter and cleaned oil screens.
Sounds a different motor.

Still, with no fairing it is a bit windy and light in the front end at pace 100+.
But at least its a goer again.

Re: GPz600R ignition?

How do you know you have spark?
Testing outside the chamber will show the coil works and f*&k all else. Using the ZX1100 module will not have the spark firing in the right way due to different ignition curves.
Go get a module from a GPZ600r or 750r may be imilar too.
Check leads, coil earths and all ...

Re: 900r finally sorted

So the damage list is both right side blinkers smashed, fairing upper destroyed, screen destroyed, seat sub frame considerable lower than it should be(bent)

BUT.
Then engine was bolted in so the main frame appears ok (does anyone know any quick tests besides a road test) forks are ok (straight ...

Re: R-Date ending?

Not too sure about SA but NSW you cant. If you say, progress from P''s to full riders license you can only get the full upgrade on the day you went to P's from L's.
Otherwise the RTA will make you come back, even if the anniversary date on your riders test is prior to the day you turn up at the RTA ...

Re: 900r finally sorted

So far, sprockets and chain are worn, oil pickup had crud stuck to it after 5 years of sitting still, clamp linkage on shift shaft was not tight. So new oil, filter, chain and sprockets.

Everything else measures up ok. Shift drum, forks, grooves, circlips all ok. No bearing failure as was first ...
