I tend to agree that Rotary's being unreliable is from Piss poor maintenance, piss poor engine building or excessive flogging the tits off it.
Does anybody remember the RX7's winning the Bathurst 24hr races?
Wasn't the PP Rotary banned from racing in some classes?
How well the quad rotor race car went @ LeMans?
I appreciate anything that's fast, be it Turbo/Supercharged, EFI, Rotor, 4,6 or 8. It's all about how much $$$$$$$ you got to spend.
As for the Optimax, I run it ALL the time in my 03 636 as that's all Roma has in 98 Octane.
We run it in the GF's 97 200SX, without hassles & on current low boost it makes around 170rwkw's without hassles.
I have read articles where the same car has made slightly more HP on
BP Ulitmate than Optimax(Redcliffe Dyno's Turbo XR6 i think it was?)
In the end I use whatever 98 I can get my hands on, but if I have the opportunity to use BP instead I do. Maybe it runs better, maybe it doesn't?
Mate has LX 2 door Torana with 304 that he runs on Optimax ALL the time, it's been slightly tuned for it & made about 390HP@treads in Toowoomba on Dyno. He was happy & it didn't ping.
As for Methyl Benzene/Toluene, well it's the great stuff Speed shops sell for about $50-$80? for 20L that racers have been mixing with there home brew race fuels for years.
It's a GREAT Anti knock/Detonation Prevention additive & I have even used it a few years ago in my Turbo Capri as all we had here was std Unleaded 91? I know it's a really bad Carcinagenic? But I didn't spill that much over me & only inhaled it in small quanities, so it was all good!
Toluene is used as an octane booster in fuel, as a solvent in paints, paint thinners, chemical reactions, rubber, printing, adhesives, lacquers, leather tanning, disinfectants, and to produce phenol and TNT. It is also used as a raw material for toluene diisocyanate, which is used in the manufacture of polyurethane foams.
