If my tuner was to comment, I'm sure this is what he'd say:
I was more than pleased enough with the improvement the one custom map had on the overall performance.
After I got the map right, I ran it in each gear and the a/f ratio looked good. Yours had a great result. Everything I did made a difference... cylinder trim, accelerator pump, 02 optimiser adjustment. It was very responsive.
I know bragging rights are sought after with gear tuning, but as mentioned before, we were able to get a big improvement from the custom map and tuning, and if you are happy with the way the bike performs then you are ahead. I have had people try and buy the PCV cheaper on Ebay (from the States) and no matter how much I adjust the map, there is no effect at all.
Individual gear mapping is only suitable for racers who have all the PC accessories for further performance like the secondary fuel module and the ignition module.
These two add-ons require some serious “gear-dependant” tuning. With the quick shifter too. And in the end, the benefit is an extra 4 horsepower (quoted by PC importers themselves). It’s an expensive task but 4 horsepower is a lot for a racer.
There is also an auto-tune module and a quickshift expansion module. I have found in the past thought, that overloading the poor little bikes with 4 add-on modules, never works in the favour of the customer. There are always complications with the sensitive circuitry and it is difficult to isolate the issue. Often when one of them fails, it causes the others to fail. Also in the past we have seen, particularly on the ZX10R, that the power commander and its add-ons can interfere with the stock ECU to the point of failure. Then you have big issues.
