flatspot?

Postby quackk » Mon Jan 24, 2011 4:57 pm

gday folks
slowly finding my feet again with riding, and im noticing the bike has abit of a flatspot.. kinda feels like around 4000pmish... it does have a micron exhaust..
can someone tell me if this is common on the 06 636's? or would the slipon be causing this...not sure if this is all in my head..
im guessing the slipon will help with the topend?
cheers

Nope not in your head. One thing causes it and another exacerbates it.

The bike is choked at those revs to limit noise in the ride by test for ADR's. Thus it's a little lean or rich, I can't remember, in that rev range. Add to that, the Micron pipe, especially if it has not been remapped and that will increase the issue. I had an 05 which is the same, but left it with a stock pipe and it was OK. Not crisp, but not flat. Having said that, I rode that thing up around 6 or more pretty much every where so it doesn't matter that much. I think 100kph was 6 or 6500rpm stock, so it was always above that mark.

There are really only two questions in life. 1.Which way do i go? 2.What is the lap record?

and the Micron has removed the butterfly in the exhaust, so that may be making it a little "fluffy" at those revs, how often are you below 4grand on a 6? :?

well i noticed this whilst putting it around on 50km streets in suburbia and wanted to understand more about the bike and how it behaves..its my first 600cc bike and has been rather interesting. :kuda:

just wondering - i had always the impression that only a full exhaust would require a remap (eg pc3) to fix flatspots/get the most power out of it.. i.e slip ons u could get away without one.. is that right?

generally slip-ons dont require a re-map. but in saying that, nearly all FI bikes benefit from a remap purely beacuse they are clogged from the factory for emissions testing.

My new exhaust is a full system so different kettle of fish, but maybe there's something in it.

The dyno sheet supplied by akra has a slight dip down from stock around 3-4 k (both power and torque), but climbs up above stock substantially from 5-6k up to 15300 redline, if that helps

You'll need a dyno tune done Tim.

You could try a downloadable map but you'll never be sure it's right.

The differences are major, from motor to motor.

Take Nemo compared to Madkaw's 10r. Totally different torque curve in every aspect. His bike just has better torque down low compared to nemo. not matter how much tuning was done to match them up. ;)

Quackk if you wanna try something to get rid of the flat spot a pc3 can be had pretty cheaply either new or 2nd hand like I did from the states now. Most of the pipes have maps on the Dynojet site. The PC3 install's pretty straight forward IF you're mechanically/electrically inclined. I've got no idea on how well it will work tho, anyone? :D

System's installed with the akra pc3 full system map loaded but haven't ridden it yet, Glen @ Allfixed is fabricating me a BRACKET. Can't wait to ride it!

Yeah, tuning would be a good idea - where to go? What's it probably gonna cost for most dips to be ironed out? TJ's going again?
