POLICE have slammed a young motorcycle rider and his pillion passenger who led officers on a high-speed chase before crashing their bike at a major intersection.
Police say the two men are lucky to be alive after allegedly speeding at up to 170km/h and running at least one red light.
Police chased the two men along Nepean Highway in the early hours of Thursday before they crashed at the intersection of Lower Dandenong Rd
and Boundary Rd. The injured men were arrested and taken to hospital.
The rider, 19, has been charged with theft, speeding, evading police and placing his passenger in danger.
The passenger, 24, has been charged with theft and possessing amphetamines.
