ZX12R and 190 rear tyres

Howdy all,

Amazing what fantastic spring weather and the bike running like a new one can do for the soul.

No rants this time. I want to try and make my 12 "turn in" better. I have had the suspension reworked and it is much better than stock, though it can still be a tad awkward when it gets tight. I realise the girl will never be a ZX10 but with a bit of fiddling I reckon it can be better.

I have been told that by fitting a 190 size rear tyre can make my bike drop into turns much easier. I would like to know if anyone has dropped from the standard 200 to a 190 and if it was better in turns?

to a pirelli diablo corsa 190 rear
very very nimble for such a big heavy bike

I would go the 190's

than you also have different profiles as well, 55 profiles would make it tip in quicker again

Go a 190, it has a 6 inch rim, the same as all litre bikes on the market. the 200 was just KHI stroking their ego's..

Go Michelin's of course

Put 6mm of spacers on the rear shock to raise the back up..

Drop the Yokes at the front 5mm over the forks..

And enjoy the twisties !!

When the HPX's are done and dusted I will grab a set of Metzeler Sportec M3's and give them a run.

I think we have met on the road Hoffy. You were riding with Phil Harlum and crew to the 2007 Phillip Island WSBK, you and the fellas rounded me up at the Cann River end of the Monaro run down from Bombala (and earlier in the day at that huge downhill near Henry's Creek between Bredbo and Cooma....lol). I spoke to you at the Cann River Mobil servo. My bike was only just 3000k's old then ( and that was my road experience too after 25 years in the bush).

Oh and another thing, what is the best way (not necessarily the cheapest either) to get my brakes up to scratch? They aren't the best now my riding has improved.

But is that the bikes or the pilots Glen? Re brakes, from my understanding braided lines make a massive diffrence.

apart from a front sprocket change...the best 'easy' mod you can do to a 12r

I junked a new 200 rear (fitted to get the bike roadworthy) for a 190
...Michelin. the difference is awesome. Do it!

Its one of the best changes you can make to the barge. Once you have gone to a 190 section, as Frog says, you will never go back to a 200.....

M3's are a great choice, and so are 2CT Pilot Roads (paging Strika is that the right name for that tyre ? ) - the dual-compound jobbies, get plenty grip *and* good mileage, incredible but true.....

Brakes - the cheapest mod is a set of EBC HH pads all round. Then, a 3-line braided kit from HEL. Import direct from the UK supplier, I only paid $140 delivered to Oz for this about 12 months ago - may be a tad more these days. Last - cable-tie the brake lever to your throttle - tight- for a minimum of 24 hours. This will purge every tiny morsel of air out of the system. Best done after you fit the braided lines and HH pads. This mod will give you the best braking possible from the stock master cylinder and calipers. It won't prevent brake fade under really harsh conditions , but for normal tooling around the burbs, and 99% of most useage, fade should not be a problem anyway.
