WooHoo! Just thought I'd post because I haven't done it before. This morning negotiating one of the eight roundabouts on my way to work, I went in quite quick and grounded my peg. There was no one else in the other lane which was a good thing because it caught me completely by suprise and I ended up going a bit wide on the way out. :D

Depending on just how hard you're pushing, then grounding your peg can be a bad thing.

I am currently having a bit of a mental struggle with right-hand corners, which I am working on fixing, but in short my technique isn't quite 100% and therefore I'm scraping the peg because I'm not getting my body in the right position... while on the left side the peg isn't scraping at all but I'm cornering much faster!

However, if you're all the way off the bike, weighting the outside boot and still touching down on the inside peg then you're the man! :D

I'm afraid I'm not the man. I underestimated my speed so didn't set myself up off the bike for the corner. Once in there the lean angle I needed to meet my exit point grounded the peg. So I too have cornered faster than that which is why I was shocked when it decked. I was feeling so good about myself too. :(

Sounds like me! My brother-in-law, Who is a "fanger", says that I have always been a nervious rider. But he used to regularly step off and thought nothing of it. If I never "ground" a peg I will be happy  But congrats for the effort and the thrill!

At my last track day I ground the pegs, exhaust, gear lever, fairings and engine cover.
Next time out I'm going to try weighting the outside peg, as I'm already hanging off.

This almost caused me a highside

You should start doing this sooner rather than later - and on the road too - as it gives you a lot more grip on the tarmac, which gives you more chance of staying shiny side up... or even better means you can corner harder and get more power down earlier ;)

It also helps you turn the bike faster (as you're pushing the peg and the bar opposite each other) which is great when you need to suddenly tighten you rline due to debris, cars, etc. I told a long-term rider to do it the other day and he said he'd learned more about riding that day than he had in years.

Ah but now you know you can do it, you have something to aspire to - being off the seat properly and still scraping the peg. I like a challenge ;)

if you ride off the Barton Hwy, through Nicholls on the back way to Ngunnawal there are no less than 12 , with 4 *large* ones that will have you scraping your elbow if you are fast enough !!!!

We love those roundabouts, especially at 4 in the morning !!!!

Plenty good roundabouts all over this place......

Haha thebirdman.gif

ZXR250's weren't designed with lean angles in mind.
