Whats the major differences (if any) between these year model ZX6R's ?? One (a 1996 model) has come up for sale down here in Anarchy Road, and one of the locals is interested in it as a track bike (and potential New Era 2 racebike)....
Any tips from the ZX6 gurus would be much appreciated.
cheers

this is all off the net gos but here goes
....
yep thats as much as can gather... essentially nothing... motocycle specs lists the 95/96 as the same bike with same specifications...
someone may correct me but i think the major revisions went something like this...
93/94
95/96
97/98/99 (i think there was an update in there somewhere)
dave3 may be able to clear things up, or someone else ... im still learning the differences in the 6Rs

I think 95-97 were all the same. As far as I know the only difference was the paint scheme! (I went out briefly with a boy who had a 96 when I had my 95 and there was no difference that I could tell except mine was prettier

)

Thanks Dave!!!
OK...OK...OK so I have had a few F series ZX6's in my life!! So sue me!!!!
Gos, the main difference between a 1995 (F1) and a 1996 (F2) is the frame. F1's have a weak point around the ram air ducts. If you find an F1 without a repair here, check the frame and see if it was replaced under warranty (usually has a sticker on the frame) if so, cool. If not, then allow for a new frame, as it WILL break!!!!!
F2's are much better and Kawasaki apparently strengthened them up. With an F1, the frame can be knocked out of shape by tying down on the trailer too tight!!! I shit you not!!!!
Other than that they are the same. Even the F3 (1997) is the same.
The only real common weak point apart from that is the valves. They run very thin 4mm valve stems, which are a tad fragile. If the engine is overrevved, they usuall smack pistons and damage the top end. But, you will know immediately!!!

Apart from that they are very strong. I am still running the same clutch in mine that I put in it in 1996!!! The gearbox has never been touched and that's even after a season with Bayliss banging it down the box without the clutch........ as he does!!
