An 'Immaculate ZX-9R'...
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ZX9R-1999-MODEL- ... dZViewItem
I've often toyed with the idea of finding a bike like this, a few years past it's prime, but a good bike from a good year. I often look twice and think "Maybe this is the one..."...but then I take my hand off it and have closer look. There are plenty of them out there though, 6-7 years old bikes with 20,000km on them.
Nice blue colour, aka a 'custom paint job', but what colour were the original 1999 ZX-9Rs? What's people's general opinions on respraying their bikes, sometimes a completely diiferent colour to stock? Is it generally done to hide road rash and associated crash damage, or is it normally a genuinely altruistic attempt to create a unique two-wheeled work of art?
Check out the picture of the dash. Is it my imagination, but is the speedo cracked right through top and bottom? Could be just water, but it doesn't look right.
Chain looks like it's really rusty as well...and what is the bit about 3rd gear?
Also interesting to see the mighty ZX-9R described as a Sports Tourer...!
Bit of a worry buying a bike from a guy who sells pointy weapons as his main business

.
Hmm...needs a hugger.
Late Edit> Original colours were (as far as I can tell) a metallic green, dark red and a similar blue.

Judging buy those strips its lead a charmed life. I think the crack is just lint from the rag he used on the guages. Paint, not sure on that one.

The blokes definition of immaculate is interesting I think. Is it my imagination or are they stone chips all over it (on reflection I think it's just reflections), plus whats with the skid mark up the radiator. Surely if your selling something as immaculate you'd have a crack at giving it a decent clean.
Original colours I think were the Blue, Green and Red but with the poxy looking Chequered purple graphic on the fairing.
Is there a ding on the left side of the bracket in front of the speedo also?
Given that it's so low in k's I'd be worried that it had sat for a couple of years, in which case the valve stem seals etc are probably farked.

He has an interesting definition of "1999 model", too. In the main info panel, he has the date of manufature as December, 1997.
Look, also, at the rust in the front axle and the pinchbolts, not to mention the chain. That's not an OE rear sprocket, either (round holes instead of slotted), so the bike's not only on its second chain, but that chain's been on there long enough to rust.
I have a special bargepole in the shed that I use when bikes like this come up on Ebay... I wouldn't pay two grand for that thing, just on principle.

those "cracks" on the speedo and stuff, are wool from those fluffy sponge things, i have one, they fall appart everywhere.
i think the stone chips near the headlight its water drops, but the radiator looks like its been bush bashing... and and colour?? who knows?

Question for item #180018669557 - ZX9R 1999 MODEL MINT CONDITION ONLY 23000KMSHi Mike
There is no crack on the plate of the speedo, I had another look at the bike and I think you might be looking at a reflection of the clutch cable.
Thankyou
Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance
