That reply just goes to show how much you DON'T know about turbo cars!
It's not the wastegate at all which is generally in the exhaust housing of most turbo's, unless you have a really big turbo & use an external wastegate which doesn't go "POOFTA" as you say anyway, if you could hear the noise out of the wastegate it would just sound like really loud unmuffled exhaust noise.

It's a blow off valve that makes the "POOFTA" noise, which is used to stop the turbo from slowing down or stalling on gear changes when the throttle is closed.

What about turbo 4WD's? Only REAL men drive Turbo 4WD's, all others are "FUGGEN GIRLY CARS"!

Having been up a hill in a 1980s n/a diesel VW Passat at about 20km/h foot to the floor in a 60 zone, I'm not about to start criticising turbocharging!

Mind you, I remember seeing a young hoon in a VL turbo racing up the Barkly Street St Kilda hill. Towards the top, his car made a noise, not so much 'poofta' as "BANG!!!!" and the motor went from making smooth 1980s Japanese inline 6 type noises to 1930s Fordson tractor with fouled spark plug type noises. I'd love to know what it was that he killed.

I forgot to add they only go "POOFTA" if you vent them to atmosphere, the SX still has the std Nissan Bypass valve/blow off valve & it vents back into the airbox like most std turbo petrols hence you don't hear anything.

Yappa it's all good, just thought I would use your "Fuggen Girly" line as it suited the situation.

Just thought i'd put in my 2c worth, a 200sx is ok but if your doing speeds of 100 k's or more in a non 100k's zone you can't lane split and leave the plods scratching their butts, I bought a falcon 4 speed slug for the heavy crap and the rain, my ZXR is my baby never would I part with it and I make it go faster anytime I want, they'll pry it from my cold dead hands before I let it go.

I need a car to tow my bike or ute it places as I live in the desert!
The closest tracks to me are 500km's away @ Warwick (Morgan Park) or Ipswich (Queensland Raceway).

Something smallish say 1400kg's with around 150kw's so it can tow the bikes comfortably.
