the grip so far has been unquestionable - even trying to get it to spin up on the bonang just resulted in lots of small wheelies out of the corners.
here is a photo of my tire when i got back, as i said this has over 3300 k's on it and it still looks like it's got a bit left yet. i wouldnt be surprised if i get over 6K out of the rear, thats about 1K more than the last M1 lasted and it didnt do an island trip.![]()

Hey Marty, throw a set of M3s on your '9' find 105km/s of twisties and posts us a photo. I want to see you move these tyres more than Phil

Did the first ride with the M3 on the rear on Sunday. We went up to Mt Baw Baw. For you foriegners, Mt Baw Baw is a shit ski area, but it's reasonably high, and the road is 57klms of twisties up, and funnily enough 57klms of twisties on the way back down. (the road only goes up one side of the mountain)
It was pretty cold up top, with snow still covering the sides of the road (tack took a pick i tink?)
The M3's are a very similiar shape to the old rennsports. perhaps not as sharp, but pretty sharp all the same. For me, that's a plus, especially with the 9, as it allows you to chuck it on it's side with confidence and offers more edge feel. I still have the rennsport on the front, and the M3 matches well in profile, with no edges or differences in feel from front to rear when banking into a turn.
Grip was never an issue. On the run up and back down Baw Baw, smooth riding never hinted at any loss of traction. So, at times I wicked it up a bit and got aggressive with the throttle to see if I could provoke some bad habits from the rear M3. Nothing! Not even a wiggle!
At a few points on the climb up and back down, we encountered wet patches. I maintained some tunr speed and lean angle on a couple to see what happened. The front started moving but the rear just gripped. So then I attacked a couple of damp corners with some excessive throttle while leant over. Nothing!
The fuckers were still gripping!!!! Not bad for a road tyre.
Oh, and BTW Phil!!! My elephants are gone!!!!!!

Yeah I trust your opinion.Wouldn't have fitted them if I thought you were and idiot!!!Phil wrote:i knew you'd like them................youre a cruel bastid.......those elephants were only pups as well, didnt even get very old before they were extinct.
glad to hear you thought the same about the grip
I just hope I get more mileage out of it. I destroyed a set of Dunnie Q's in 2000klms, a set of Hi-sports in the same, 014's last me 3500, Rennsports i can get 4500-5000 from (3500 from the one I took off including a track day at the creek-would have left it on, but it punctured). So If I can get 6000-7000klms from it, I will prolly keep using them. As long as grip levels don't taper off, or they develop scaloping probs or such!!

no evidence of any of those trait so far on mine, and as you saw they have 3500 k's on themStrika wrote:I will prolly keep using them. i tried to get the big guy to throw some on his 12, he went with the powers and they feel ok in the little ride i had.Gosling1 wrote:Phil/Marty - what about a set of these on a 12 ? Whaddya reckon ? My qualifiers will be just about done and dusted shortly, always looking for a new tyre to test......
cheers
i reckon the metzlers would be good on the 12, the sharper (than the M1) profile will make it steer nicely and rear grip should be um interesting although i havent been able to get mine to let go - either has marty

Yeah, but my wankers wrist won't allow full throttle Phil!Phil wrote:[ um interesting although i havent been able to get mine to let go - either has marty
Seriously Gos, the 9 seems to like em, and 9's aren't exactly a size 6 are they!!! OK, they pass the coat hanger test, but they are still no lighweight, so the 12 should get on fine with the M3's!

I think I'm gonna whack a set of these on the 10 to see what they're like. I used to run Rennsports on my 9 and loved them so I wouldn't mind giving these a shot. I think we're heading out to the creek shortly so I might do it before then to see what they're like.

I'm still happy with mine. They've done the superbike school, commuting, weekend scratching and a trip to PI through the snowies...they've even done some earthmoving!!!! Just coming up for 5,000km and they've still got a fair bit left in them.
