They Won't bolt up to a ZX7R as the mount holes are spaced closer on the gixxer and ZX6 caliper bolt holes, than on the ZX7. I am unsure as to if they would be any better than the 6 piston tokico's on the 7. They are prob the same caliper in essence (both Tokico 6 pots) maybe with diff bolt pattern only. I would have to chase down specs to be sure.

I thought the ZX7 had good brakes anyhow, or is that just an old memory painting a rosy picture? I do seem to recall them being a hell of a lot better than the ones on the ZX6

Here is the completed ready to ride bike, including the mega bling tokico six piston calipers, and with Marranda's old fairings on it while mine are being painted :) Off to Broadford tommorrow to try out the new brakes, weather permitting of course. :)

I am running a Bridgestone medium rear 165 slick. Only cause I can't get 170's in soft race rubber any more. If i could get 170 in race street rubber i would prefer to run those. But it doesn't really matter at club races.

The standard brakes are fine to a point. But, just don't really cut it at the track.

Update v.678934509884.2 New Era ZX6R

Post by Strika »

Well good news has appeared on the horizon for next years racing season with a couple of new road racing classes being introduced for 2006. One of which Puts me in with at least a chance of competing with bikes only 3-4 years younger than mine rather than all the 2004/2005/2006 stuff.

The first class has been unofficially named "TWIN SPRINTS" and is a class for twin cylinder machines up to 650cc capacity. So the likes of SV's, ER6's, Hyosungs and any other eligible models available in Oz at the time. Mods are minimal. With pretty much internals only for suspension and possibly a full pipe rather than a slip on due to the difficulty of some std exhaust systems being one piece  Sounds interresting.

The second class is almost tailor made for my bike. It's called either "New Era" or "Pre-Modern" we dont know yet, but it is basically supersport bikes over 7 years old. Woohoo! Mine slots in there nicely.

Anyhoo 19th of Nov I am off to Broadford to do a roadrace school (all welcome BTW) and run in the new motor ready for the last round of this years series on the 20th Nov at Broadford.

Both of the above classes are going to be run as part of the Victorian Championships run over three rounds. One at Broadford, One at Winton, and the other at Phillip Island. So although I had intended staying in club racing only, it looks like I will do the state series so that I can compete against like performing bikes. :)

Great news man. I know what you mean about wanting a class that suits your bike. We have no where near as many classes up here so I am looking at going into major debt (if I can!) to race in the new superstock class we are getting.

So do you expect to get many numbers for the class? And will they bang it on the back of another class, so there are more bikes on track? And lastly what sort of mods are they going to allow?

It is run as a class in the Vic Champs, but not sure how they will do it. I suppose it depends on the amount of entries they recieve. The class is basically supersport rules from those years. So standard fork externals with mod internals, can do cams, Pistons, Rods, Ign, efi, jets, rear shock n spring can be changed, instruments, Std fairing bracket, rearsets, Bars, Levers, M/cylinders and a few other bits.

This new Superstock class you speak of is it the 600-745cc class 2??????? :)

There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. Some kind of high powered mutant never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

Not sure how relevant this is to Vic. regulations, but in NSW, there are 2 'New Era' classes. 'New Era 1' is for bikes manufactured between 1981 and 1989 - basically a class for all your old GSX-R's, FZ's, early CBR's etc etc. 'New Era 2' is for bikes manufactured between 1990 and 1995. Classes run concurrently from 0-1300cc.

I don't think there is a 'rolling cutoff' for this class, so these year-specific rules should stay around for a few years. Up here, the 'New Era' racing is run in conjunction with the Post Classic Racing Association.

I am pretty sure that class regs' and allowable modifications are on the MA website. This class was introduced last year? or year before, to add some interest to the PCRA racing, and allow heaps of *good* bikes to race, that otherwise would be rotting in sheds.......

The Vic series may well run close to the reggs for NSW however here in VIC the HMRAV (our version of your PCRA) do not believe motorcycles were manufatured after 1983  so they do not have a class as in NSW. here in VIC it will be run as part of the VIC champs in with the modern stuff. Not sure how successfull it will be, however if nothing else it may encourage MHRAV to look at it for 2007

  I hear ya !! I think they will embrace the later years at some time, but the Vics do have more people in the earlier classes, where in NSW the interest was dropping off somewhat  ( ie last year, at the Wakefield Park round, there was not 1 SINGLE Forgotten Era bike racing in the Unlimited class, and at NSW PCRA Championships last year, at Oran Park, there was not 1 SINGLE Unlimited bike in the P4 class ( ie no Honda 4's, Kwakka Triples etc etc. ) It was just pathetic.

So I think the idea behind New Era was to inject some new blood into what ( in NSW at least) has become a very sparse field for P4 and P5 in the Unlimited class :( :( My mate Tony, racing his GSX1100 in P5 at EC last year, had a total of 6 ( count 'em , all 6) bikes *racing* in the Unlimited class.............. pretty sad all round.
