p.s. whoever said the bicycle industry is worse needs their head read. The customers may be worse, but the margins are far, far better.
Retail yeah sure but wholesale the bicycle market is a long way behind margins in the motorcycle game ;)

Always love to read about the cost of things over here. I would like to point out this though.

This shows a price of 11 thousand us dollars. When you consider the fucked state of the Japaneses yen, it is worth 3 times less to the Ozzie dollar than it was 6 years ago, this begs the question why the hell we never see a proportional drop in new bike prices.
Now its fair enough that Dealers have to make a profit but when they offer you $4500 on say My ER6N which is mint and has less than 6000 ks on it you start to feel someone is taking the piss. Regardless of how much it costs them to run their business it still feels shit.

Anyways heres the thing if i can buy a bike for that cost in the states why the hell cant we get similar prices here. Oh and i know that we have different import charges i used to own an import dance music shop in Brisbane im well aware of what customs duty is. You cannot tell me its that much higher over here than anywhere else especially the states.
So someone enlighten me please cos im stuffed if i can figure it out :D :D :D :D

Maybe all the Au dealers can get together and by in bulk from the states instead of from Japan and then they could give us an even bigger price drop when they do their "Run Out Deals"

Its like Rugs a Millions "Great Deals" call me patty and paint me pink but if some one says i'm taking 50 % off then another 25% off it simply makes me feel i'm getting effing ripped off at any other time.

:D :D :D :D

Btw i bought my bike private second hand. new is nice but the money in my pocket is nicer. :OP

PS no comments are directed at dealers here as i recon your all top blokes really :D :D :D
Are you sure i said that???

I was in LA in November and checked out bike prices-one example was an 07 CBR 600 OTD(out the door)$9600, at the exchange rate then that was less than $11000 $AU.

Once again, even if the Aussie dealers got together, the volumes they would be able to buy still wouldn't enable them to make them any cheaper than the officially imported bikes. We are about 1% of the world market and thus pay accordingly!

Swings and roundabouts, or however that saying goes.

Nobody was complaining when bikes didn't go up proportional to the dollar being at 0.50USD, but complain now when the distributor is able to make a bit of money. In 2001 when the dollar was shite, we were paying $2000 LESS than the US price for a gixxer600, in 2007 we we're paying $5000 more.

All that matters is do you think the product is worth what they are charging for it? If the answer's NO, don't buy it! I've had pushies worth more than a new supersport 600 bike, so to me they seem pretty cheap.

Remember, if they don't make any money, we don't get better bikes every year!
