agree with marty, by putting the snorkel back on you have altered the air intake and the problems changed. What happens when you take the snorkel off again?

Yep. Took the snorkel off before I left work.. Now it pulls like a 16 yo with his first stick mag. Did roll ons in top, no drama. Stopped on the m7 and redlined it in the first 4 gears no problem. I can't get the bastard to miss anywhere so I don't know what the story on the dyno was. Take off and crack it in first and it'll smack your head on the tank.

I can't believe the difference the snorkel makes  I guess I just ride it now and see what happens

Glen, I prolly shoulda told you before you bought one, but people just don't talk about this stuff. ZRX'S are haunted. Yep, no shit. They are haunted. They are gunna do odd shit to you, just when you least expect it. I have an intermittent electrickery issue, which has been here since I had it. Sometimes it just won;t start. No ryhme or reason, just won't start. Turn it off, back on again and wammo it fires. It did it once to me when I was mid turn. Just turned itself off...said nah...fuck ya.......I'm not playing anymore. It went to sleep for a few minutes and then, when it decided enough was enough, it started again.

By the way, may I add a small disclaimer to anything I write from hence forth........... I took the other half of that LSD trip I had on New years and I am toasted!!!      Fuck knows how I am gunna ride in the morning....but I am.......

i had a very similar problem with my car, it started as the odd hick up / miss but then got worse and worse to the point that every time it got hot (30 min of driving ) all it would do is miss and carry on.
it turned out to be the dizzy, replaced it an now runs sweet. my car is a 98 ford fairlane so it has the hall sensor in the dizzy and a tfi unit on the side aswell.

i know a car is not a bike but i would be thinking of something along the line of a dizzy's eqivelent on a bike.

good luck mate

Ok so as Hoff mentioned we went for a blat this morning. It missed a bit down low but revved to redline pretty well. The misses didn't happen as much as previous so I was pretty happy but it's still there.

Got home picked up the stock air filter some oil etc and gve her a bit of a service. Started her up and once she got warm she broke down severely, running on 2 or 3 cylinders even when it was idling. Changed the air filter back to the K and N and same thing. Sitting in the garage, start it runs fine, gets hot starts running on
less than 4 cylinders. Let it cool down start it up and the same thing happens once it gets hot.

Pulled the plugs out and 2 and 3 are black and sooty (these run off the right coil ie the one the bike shop changed for a second hand one) so I'm thinking the coil is rooted. Have ordered on which will be in in three weeks. Here's the weird thing. Put it all back together, took her for a run and she run fine, albeit with a little miss once. got home let it run for 10 mins to get hot and see if it would start breaking down again and it didn't.

It seems like it's the coil failing once it gets hot. When your fanging it the coils staying relatively cool because it's got air flying past it. On the run this morning it only missed when we were going slower ie behind cars, pushbikes etc.

The saga continues but until the coil lobs from Japan nothing much will happen for three weeks...... Phaaaaaaark!!!!!

Swap the two coils and see if it transfers to the other cylinders.

id do that, if it still does it on the same cylinders atleast then you will have norrow it down to what ever supplys/ ignites the coil.

I had exactly the same problem with my Fairlane (should have posted problem here  )
The Hall effect device sends the signal to the coil as does this...
"Ignition Pickups measure the rotation of the Crankshaft and send a signal to the Coils to fire the spark plugs."
Since the problem happens when it gets warmed up (same as the car) it could be the same thing???

yep, this is not uncommon at all. Electrical problems are like that - random & intermittent but always with a cause. Heat is the enemy of all electrical circuits..........

Many years ago on the Pearl, I had a similiar problem - bike cutting out on 2 cyls randomly - we chased a lot of things, but one smart mechanic decided to try something different - we took off the 'points' cover while the bike was idling - and he just lightly tapped on the igniter (pickup) coils - sure enough, one of them was on the way out - tap it and the bike would cut to 2 cyls, tap again - and back to 4 ! Just changed the pick-up coils for a new set and problem gone........

Can you get some good aftermarket ignition coils for a Rex ? Like Dyna coils or summat ? This is what I would be doing, fuck the OEM coils they sound dodgy.
